for the first time every I actually won something for my costume. Ok it might have only been a house party of 100-150 people in my program at school. However we did have prizes, and I was "male runner up" for my Texas Mickey outfit.
curious if anyone else had an good costume ideas that they managed to pull of and mayhbe even win a prize?

I wore my red Iginla jersey, black Nike shorts, and knee high red socks with a cardboard sign that said "Will Work 4 Food." Only a few guys had any idea what the costume was about. Some of the confused questions girls asked me were hysterical ("Why would a homeless person be dressed up like a soccer player? I got the homeless part, but what's up with your shirt? Is that some sort of religious statement against heathens?")
No costume contests, just a lot of strange looks and a few compliments by my close friends.

OK..dumb American here....What is a Texas Mickey?
Is that a malt beverage in a green, wide-mouthed bottle?

I think I might have been close to winning the costume contest at the party I went to, as I literally had dozens of people coming up to me telling me that I should win (the prize was a bunch of things including hundreds of dollars in gift certificates from places like Birks Jewelers, a day at the spa, etc). I went as a crow's nest--no particular reason other than that I had the materials to make it, and I didn't start planning the costume until about three hours before the event. I threw it together with this huge wicker orb (two feet in diameter) that I got at Ikea, combined with a fairly realistic crow that I made last year, and tacked sticks and leaves all over it. It looked pretty bizarre, and the fact that it stayed balanced was a marvel of engineering.
The guy who won had a jelly-fish costume that was made of a clear umbrella and a bunch of bubblewrap. It did actually look fantastic.

I went on the Bust Loose halloween pub crawl and there was a guy dressed up as "Floreda". He did a perfect job. I think he came in 4th. The winner was a guy who looked exactly like Johnny Depp from Pirates of the Carribean. He must have spent a pretty penny on his costume though.
I myself was a "one night stand". Basically i took a cardboard box, made it look like a night stand, wore it around my upper body and put a lampshade on my head. I attached things to the top of the nightstand aswell. 5 of the 10 judges picked me to win but one of them told me to get off the stage. I don't think he got it. I must have had my picture taken 20 times though with some hot ladies so it was worth it.
Oh ya...and it worked.

My friends and I hosted a party and were dressed as the village people. I was the construction worker. I saw a group of boys wearing flames jerseys and carrying hockey sticks. One kid had a commodore wig and the other drew on a red beard and wore his goalie pads. I thought it was pretty cool.

There was a guy posted on /. that went as a working iPod. He took a tablet PC as the screen and the buttons even worked and he played music!
Pretty cool IMO, though the actual look of his costume was kind of weak.
Going as Idaho is awesome, I'll have to remember that.

I dunno if this has anything to do with the holiday, but on Halloween night I saw a NYC subway transit operator with a brand spanking new Calgary Flames cap.

Totally off topic , but this costume reminded me of a disguise a few Aussie buddies of mine made when I was overseas.
They hollowed out a dresser, cut a round hole on the top of it, and placed a motorbike helmet over the hole (the kind of helmet with a full face shield and a visor). Whenever one of them picked up at the bar, the other would race home, hide in the dresser, pull on the helmet, and watch the "show".
Aussies.....quite resourceful in a strange kinda way

I still thought I should have won for my costume in '03...
That's right boys and girls... Roy Horn!!! Complete with white tiger.
Thank god Shopper's Drug Mart had a Christmas white tiger. I took the Santa hat off him, and strapped him on with some goz. Game the little guy to a hottie waring a half red, half nude devil costume. I'll see if I can find the pic of her somewhere...
