Default When's the last time you saw....

a Yugo....being driven.

I saw a guy driving down the street in a Yugo today. I almost dropped my mail!

I guess this thread could follow this theme, but I'm also interested to know if anyone else has seen one of these POS running around in the last 5 or 6 years.

Nope, last one I saw was in Russia.

Yugo's are proof to the world that communism doesn't work.

They're use to be a guy on my street that drove a blue one. Haven't seem him in a while though, probably a couple of years actually.

Last time I saw one was when some guy on Bowness Rd. was still selling them.
So that would be about ...

I think.

I remember seeing a new Lada at the Calgary Auto Show many years ago now. If you felt the cloth ceiling of the car you could feel that there was straw stuffing behind it.

I couldn't help but think of the movie Drowning Mona with Dany Devito and Bett Middler where everyone drove Yugo's. I think that was the last time I saw one of those things. I think I maybe saw 2 or 3 of them in my life. I still remember those adds from 1987 Yugo...Starting at $3995.

I remember Lada's got quite popular in Kamloops around 1994 especially the Niva Cossick or whatever it was. But 5 years later all those Lada's they sold were all in junk yards and no longer running.

Back when I was younger and more jerkier I used to enjoy going to the Llada display at the annual auto show. The sales guys were so desperate and I got a real kick out of their sales pitch for their crappy vehicles.

I never forgot the smell of that plastic, the hardest I've ever sat on or touched, straight out of Mother Russia after sitting in one of those Niva's back in the late 80's at the auto show.

You could smell the combination of a cheap labour, crumbling ruble, cheap vodka and military grade engineering. The closest I ever came to the Cold War...I don't think I would've lasted in a Gulag very long if that was the way the Russians designed passenger cars for the general public to drive in daily.
