Default Guitar Hero II ... anyone?

Has anyone played this? It gets great reviews and everyone says how fun it is...

But is it not uber-geeky? A grown man, holding a little playtoy guitar infront of a TV ....

Thoughts?

Awesome! I actually play it with my son (he is 7 and way better than me). Nothing like tossing back a few beers and ripping out some Hanger 18. Its actually encouraged us to go out and purchase some acoustics to learn how to play for real.

This game is great fun. I would probably recommend it more for the 360 as there are new tunes and possibly downloadable songs (maybe some Maiden!).

Awesome game, and freaking HARD.
If you can beat GH 2 on "Hard" You should be able to beat GH 1 on "expert"
Fun, fun game though.
Apparently it is going to be released on the Wii as well.

It's addictive and a lot of fun. My buddy has it at his house and we're all 24. It's not only a 7-14 year old game. It's a lot of fun for 18+ people too.

It just came out yesterday for the 360.. had a gift card so I picked it up.

Must say it's quite fun so far, but I can see it getting very hard.

The jump from the meduim difficulty level to the hard is insane!

I bought Guitar Hero I for PS2 even though I didn't have a PS2...just because I wanted to try it so bad and there were no kiosks back then. So far, it's gathering dust. I should sell mine.

I think it's because I passed all the songs and got bored of it, tried GH2 as well. I guess the music just doesn't suit me most of the time. What should be good at the user hacked and customized Guitar Hero games you can download and burn onto a DVD...with all sorts of music. There's like 80s guitar hero and techno guitar hero, etc. I think, I haven't gotten around to trying them though.

Guitar Hero would be so much more fun if they could find a way to put rows of buttons on it like a real guitar. You might not believe me, but it's actually much easier to play 2-4 rows of 4 buttons stacked than 1 row of 5 buttons. Also, I HATE ORANGE. The buttons just aren't intuitive to me and I can't get a feel for where my hand is ever...since the buttons are bubbly and smooth. I would love a guitar hero controller that actually has sunken buttons like frets on a real guitar so you know where you fingers are at all times.

I also don't like the flappy paddle thing you use for the strum bar. It's too chunky to use comfortably, they should have something thin like a metal wire so it's more like a guitar string. Also, I play with a guitar pick on the GH controller, makes it easier it seems. But I guess my version of a guitar hero controller would be slicing up kid's hands or something

Fun game, just finished expert mode on GH2 last night. Only got "Cowboys from hell" on GH1 to finish on expert now, that might take a bit.

Piss moan Piss moan. It's a simple simulated guitar game. If you wanted more realistic guitar features, get a real guitar and sheet music. The way it is created, it is very easy for anyone to jump in and learn quickly.

Your comment about the DVD hack with customised songs on it -- is that real, and where do I get one?

I have a gift card too and was thinking about getting this. Need something other than my usual gaming fare.

So the consensus is that it's good? Can someone give me an idea of what it's all about. Is it simply a tap the button when the light flashes on the screen type game?

So you bitch at him (and he does play "real" guitar, btw) and then you ask him for hacks?

Good luck with that.

Well, I picked it up last night. Felt kinda foolish with it in hand as I walked out of the store. Felt kinda foolish showing the box to my girlfriend. Felt kinda foolish putting it in my hand.

Even felt a little foolish as the first song was going ...

... and then 3 hours later ....

Felt foolish staying up way too late, but man is it addicting ... just. want. to get. home. to. rock. once. more.

I picked this up last night for my 360 as well. I felt a little foolish buying it, especially when the kid at the counter (who looked about 15 years old) said he bought it last night and said it's "totally awesome." But after I got home and rocked out on it for a couple hours I couldn't care less what I looked like buying it.

Don't feel foolish... haven't I read somewhere that a few members of the Flames enjoy the game? If it's cool enough for Regehr...
