Default Cowboys moving to 5st and 4Ave

http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/...dd&k=13145&p=3

The old Office Depot (not sure if it is anything now) on the sw corner of 4th Ave and 5 st is going to be the new home for Cowboy come September.

As the article mentions, no room for an outdoor tent at Stampede at the new site...be interesting to see what they come up with next Stampede, in so far as attracting acts, charging for cover etc.

Interesting - that's right across the street from our office building (Murphy Oil). I'm sure there will be an increase in the urine smell in the alley behind our building.

I knew it was too much to hope that that ****hole would just be eradicated from the face of the earth altogether, but a small part of me was hoping. Oh well, I can avoid the new place as steadfastly as the old one.

Why care if you don't go?

What difference does it make to you?

It's very existence is an affront to me. What difference does that make to you?

Nothing - I was merely curious.

We're just talking about the night club in Calgary, right?

It's existence makes Calgary appear like the biggest hicktown in the land. It's full of redneck jockohomos and chachi ######bags...never mind the roid-head racists at the front door. Not really what anybody found appealing at that place? I guess the good thing was that atleast it concentrated all these people to one location instead of spreading them around town to annoy everyone else.

Bingo. If the "beautiful people" want to have a place to strut and show how good they all are, let them have that place, and leave the rest of the city for the rest of us.

Plus, I like having this world famous club in town so when I have young relatives in town, I have a place to take them that is "cooler" than anywhere else.

First, you're giving it far too much credit for presenting the city itself in any different light.

Second, the frequenters of Cowboys, both the 15% you've decided to sterotype as 100% of the crowd (and for the record there are a few bigger "redneck bars" in this city), and the 85% of others in the crowd who make that a place to go every so often, have exsisted in the past 13 years I've been going to the various bars and pubs here in town, exist and frequent other bars currently, and will contiune to exsist for the next 13 years.

I don't think its an exaggeration to say that any city with 1 million people has any different of a makeup of bargoers.

The last I went there it was full of kids having a good time.
Granted that was like...3 months ago, all that semi-stereotypical stuff you just spouted might have just happened recently.

Cowboys just seems to attract the worst of the worst. The most vapid sleazebag women and the most moronic male monkeys in the city.

Very embarrassing.

I completely agree. In my opinion, its sad the only establishment Calgary is known for by some is a place called Cowboys(even more embarrassing for me since I have no interest in any western cowboy culture). Not that Calgary will ever be known for its nightlife, but at least have a club as widely known as Cowboys to be a decent place.

The place essentially is a barn with music(bad music at that imho). There is always a place for a club like this in every city, however, to be on the Calgary map as a destination is sad. A great place to party for some for sure, but not my thing. Id rather go to a club with an upscale look.

Also, it depends on who exactly is coming to Calgary and wants to go to Cowboys, as not everyone cares bout it. For example, my ethnic heritage is both Asian and Jamaican...hence I can assure you, any family or friends of mine have never once asked or wanted to go to Cowboys, let alone hear of it. They would rather go to a place that plays music they like.

I love all the people that like to slam Cowboys. I've only been there three times, and have had a good time each and every time. It's an attraction for the city (whether people chose to believe it or not). I personally could careless if it closes or not, but it's just funny listening to these nobs going on about what a hole it is. If you don't like it don't go. By the looks of the linenups everytime I drive by, they aren't hurting for your business. I heard a similar such conversation at the Ship and Anchor the other night. I found the whole conversation kind of ironic, because in my opinion there's not a bigger collection of white thrash in the city than at the Ship and Anchor.

Meh, not a fan of the Ship and Anchor either. Personally, I prefer a good dark pub full of old grumpy men and depressed alchoholics. That or the old Night Gallery. Good times at both.

I find both groups repulsive, but I find the Ship and Anchor group just to be a bunch of hypocrites. Daddy's oil exec. jobs pays their bills, they spend as much money on trying to look not preppy than the people are buying the Lacoste stuff, and they'd have a lot less time on their hands to sit around 17th drinking if it wasn't for Daddy paying the bills (see above). That whole crowd really makes my stomach turn.

Melrose is the place to drink. Everyone is there for a good time and you have a mixture of every crowd.

You need to use a k to properly spell knob. As for your sage advice, of course I already follow it. I'm just expressing an opinion here, same as anyone.
