Default Drive - New Series on Fox

I caught the last hour Sunday night and watched it last night as well, and I am really enjoying it. I thought it would be way more over the top and poorly acted but it's actually pretty good. Some very good acting by guys like Dylan Baker and Charles Martin Smith.. but Edmonton born Nathan Fillion steals the show. His character is great and Mal-ion..i mean Fillion is a true leading man in this show.

The show has alot of potential to it, but there is a real possibility for it to get too cheesey too quickly like Prison Break did (didn't like that quickly after enjoying the first several episodes).

Don't know if it will find an audiance or if anyone else will enjoy it, but I recommend giving it a chance next monday.

I've watched it so far and its been good not great. Nathan Fillion is of course great, but some of the other performers are just not very good at all which drags down the show. There's also a possibility of having "too much conspiracy" in the show, something that plagues a lot of shows today for some reason.

An illeagal cross country race for millions of dollars that some particpants are being forced to take part in - that's an interesting enough premise in and of itself. The key is not to overcomplicate it.

Yup, exactly my take as well. I can easily see Fox or whoever overdoing it on the conspiracies and plotlines and ruining it rather quickly. I remember trying to jump back into Prision Break at the beginning of this year and when the whole "it goes right to the top" Presidential conspiracy surfaced I shut it off.

Tim Minear was on of the main guys on Firefly(as well as Standoff and Wonderfalls) and is the Producer on this...which means it will be good and will be cancelled.

Me too. Not sure why it happens so often. The best shows are the ones that have a simplest premise and let it unfold naturally.

Take one of the best shows of all time: The Fugitive.

Man framed for the murder of his wife, running from the law while trying to find the real killer.

The show never deviated from that plot point. There was never a government conspiracy - just a bad one-armed guy that killed the hero's wife.

Simple stuff. Great show.

TV nowadays overthinks itself.

Saw both hours on sunday and watched the new episode last night. Very impressed with it. Nathan Fillion has been one of my favorite actors ever since I saw him in Fire Fly.

I liked Nathan Fillion on Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place. I liked that show but it, like many others, was "tweaked" after the first season, dropped the pizza place, and sucked.

For those of you who missed episode 2 this past Monday, CTV HD is showing it on this upcoming Friday evening.

Good show thus far.

Wasn't it episode 3?

One night there were 2 episodes (I missed the first, caught the 2nd 5 minutes in), then I caught the next episode on Monday.

So I think 3 episodes have been aired, but I still need to see the first one.

Yes, you are correct. I assumed that the first episode was a 2 hour pilot, as opposed to two back-to-back.

BTW, who plays the little bald race coordinator? I like his character.

Charles Martin Smith
I know I've seen him in lots of things.

WTF!! The 3rd and 4th episodes were pretty good. What the hell are these networks doing. If I worked in the industry there is no way in hell I would make an investment in creating a show for these bums. What exactly are you looking for? Network TV is such a huge wasteland. There are 3 or 4 days a week where I watch nothing at all and I am a TV addict. I watch Heroes, Lost, Entourage, The Office, Scrubs, Earl, and How I met Your Mother. I could watch TV for 20 hours a day if I could but there is nothing on network TV to watch. I no longer feel any amount of guilt that I pirate absolutly everything.

Lame. This is the problem with serial style shows - they suck you in with a storyline and you never get resolution.

Lame.

I like(d) the Drive concept, but the show has a 6 episode total run written all over it. At least we can still watch high speed racing on Cops.

Good lord, you give a series exactly two weeks to find an audiance and you cancel it... Fox is rediculous.

Nathan Fillion was great in this series, what a shame.

I think the argument from the network perspective is that with serial style shows, if people don't start watching from the beginning they likely won't tune in later.

It ignores the fact though that succesful shows of this style including Heros, Lost, and 24 all built their audiences over time. While they started stronger than Drive, one could imagine that given a better chance Drive would have slowly built an audience.

America as always also deserves a fair chunk of blame for simply not watching a good show. People have bad taste.

I don't think it was a great show. But it had promise, a few of the charaters were compelling (it seemed like Captain Mal driving a Dodge Challenger). It premiered on Apr.15 (on Fox) and was cancelled Apr.25 - 10 days.

I wouldn't have seen an episode if I didn't trip over the second episode 5 minutes in, recognized Nathan Fillion, and watched the rest of the episode. Then the next 2 as well.

I believe if it had a few more weeks then the show would have caught its stride.

And I hate the American Idol Thinks They Can Dance With A Celebrity Bachelor Next Top cat Doll
