Parking lots, and getting your vehicle dinged
OK so here my story. I bought a new truck not too long ago so I am still pretty protective of my vehicle.
In the past two weeks I have had two incidents with people opening there doors and bashing there doors into the side of my truck. Both on the driver side, not that that is better or worse than if it had been passenger.
So both times, I park pretty far away from the entrance of where ever I was, and the first time there was a vehicle beside me, extremely close and I had a small dent on my door. I didn't do anything about it, although I wanted to kick the vehicle next to me, but it would not have done any good.
The second time (today), there was no vehicle, but a bigger dent, and a pretty decent paint chip out of my door, with red paint grinded in. Funny thing was there was also a hand print of them trying to rub it off.
This time I got pretty pissed off, and if the vehicle was there still, I probably would have kicked it.
I just want to know if this has happened to any of you, and if it has what did you do, or what would you have done if you had seen the prick that did it.
It is really fustrating because it could all be prevented if a person could just be a little more cautious and maybe give a rats ass about other people's property.

It has happened to me and something about my incident made me to come to a realization. Some people just don't think it's a big deal and that sucks.
I was walking back to my car about a year ago, and I see a woman getting out of the passenger door beside my car. She swings her door open wildly and nails my car, leaving a nice sized dent in the door. So I look at her to see her reaction, now that she knows it's my car, and she looks at me, laughs, and says "good thing cars are meant to be banged up", and then walks away. She was an older lady, so held in my frustration and just stared her down as she and her husband walked away like nothing had happened.

I've just given up. Just do your best to try and park beside a person that looks like they take care of their car. That way you can hope that the person is more considerate because they would want the same from someone else.

yep. My grandfather's rule was always "park beside a car that's nicer than yours." I've actually been in the car when idiots hammer their door into mine. And few of them notice or care. A friend of mine had door dings all over his car from the moron who parked next to him at his apartment building. The day he moved he backed out, got out of the car and proceeded to leave a huge footprint in the jerk's door. I always wanted to do that.

I had my truck for a month when I had to pick up my wife at the airport. It was pretty tight in short term parking. 15 minutes later, I had a solid ding on my passenger door - and that was the side I had left lots of space. I was pretty steamed.
Actually, I visited Paint Medic the next day, and they were able to buff 90% of it away and they didn't even charge me - they said come back after a few months when I had some rock chips and it would be worth the cost of them mixing up my paint colour (they didn't have any of that colour mixed).

I try to park beside a car that looks newer in hope that the owner will respect my car as much as I do.
My wife has had two occasions at work where someone actually hit her car while backing out of the stall. The first one cost around $500 to fix, the second time wasn't as bad but we never did fix it before we sold the car. I just can't understand how people can be so ignorant to the fact they are damaging peoples property and just slinking away.
Door dings are just as bad, bodywork costs a fortune these days everyone knows it so why can't you be more careful getting out of your car??

same thing happened to me
at deerfoot mall, im sitting in the car waiting for the wife. the car in question is by no means mint, but it is in decent shape, and besides, its mine.
white mid-late 30s lady in a minivan pulls in beside me and her little monster of an 8yr old totally slams the door open, putting a big dent in my door.
i get out, look at it, look at the kid, then her, and ask for her insurance.
she doesnt say a thing, just looks down at the ground and hurridly (sp?) tells little timmy to come on.
i am seething, absolutely raging at this inconsiderate b*tch and her hellspawn and watch them walk into the mall.
so, in retaliation, i kicked the passenger door in about as bad as mine and then proceeded to puncture her 2 tires on that side.
petty? sure, but she had every chance to make that situation right, and didnt.
i just thought she might like a taste of her own medicine.
i've said it before and i'll say it again.
society sucks.

Relax, I was kidding. That's annoying and I probably would have slammed her car or something. It just seems you went a little all out. Couldn't you take her plates and make a claim?

Yep, I could have, but to me, it made more sense to make her suffer the same. And I'm a nice guy! Its just that her complete and utter disregard for the situation and my personal property warranted something more.

A buddy of mine carries a crow bar in the back of his truck. In the past year he's had the driver and passenger doors dined pretty good by inconsiderate drivers. Both times said drivers refused to pay for the damages. Drivers leave and out comes the crowbar - resulting in busted tail lights.

You're far from a nice guy after what you did. I'm sure if you approached her like this, she was scared or embarassed. You coulda got her plates or left a note...but instead you slashed her tires and dented her van. It was a kid for god sake...yeesh

My biggest pet peeve in relation to this topic is:
When I go into any kind of parking lot, I always park as far away as I can. They'll be ten empty lots, sometimes many more, and I'll go there. When I come back to my car, there's another one right in the spot beside mine when there are are 10 more beside us empty. Why do people do this? Even just for the convenience of getting in and out you should leave one spot, no?
I hate these people so bad and I don't even know any of them.
