Forest Whitaker
I've been watching The Shield for the last few months, trying to catch up on a great show that I wasn't able to keep up with after season 1 for various reasons. Great show of course and it has been discussed in other threads. I'm not quite half way through season 5. This guy is unbelievably good. I don't follow TV awards, but he HAD to win an emmy for this performance.
I've known he was a superb (that word doesn't come close to being adequate) actor for a very long time, but he doesn't get mentioned enough with the greatest actors. I'm a fan of his and even I don't mention him enough. I think I'm going to have to hit IMDB and check out the films of his that I have missed, starting with The Last King of Scotland.

Speaking of The Shield, I hope that it gets picked up in Canada so I can watch the last season.

and Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
He is a hell of an actor, but he has been in some pretty crappy movies (as this thread demonstrates). Who hasn't though?
I've never even seen The Shield. Has it been on TV in Canada?

Do yourself a favour and buy the series on DVD. You will not be disappointed if you even remotely like police dramas, or dramas in general.

Wasn't talking about critical acclaim....I was talking about people, movie fans. He doesn't get mentioned with the best nearly often enough.

Shield's new season and final season will be on FX in the States in the Fall. There was a channel in Vancouver that picked up the series but that channel has since been switched, so I don't think they will pick it up again. Looks like it's gonna be torrents for me. Oh well, I would never miss an episode, I can't wait till the end. And for those who haven't watched the end of Season 5.....DO IT!!! AMAZING!!!
Oh and yes, Forest Whitaker is awesome. I have never hated a character as much as I despise Lt. John Kavanaugh.

But before Last King of Scotland he wasn't that highly thought of by critics, all his awards are due to that film... He has always been an underrated actor.

I think that was his second character on ER, I seem to remember that years ago he had a role as a mentally handicapped patient.

What, no one's mentioned "The Crying Game"...
Granted, not a major role...
