Default Thrashers get their #2 d finally.......

To Atlanta:

Danny Markov (30 years old, 78 ov, 3.5 M, signed 2 years)

To NY Rangers:

Keith Carney (37 years old, 72 ov, 3.5 M, signed 1 year)
Bryan Smolinski (35 years old, 74 ov, 4.1 M, signed 1 year)
Jeff Woywitka
2008 - 2nd calgary
2.9 M cash

GM Sutaria had this to say about the deal:

Thanks to GM Bo Beff on the talks. We are thrilled with this deal as we shopped around the league for a #2 dman for atleast a week and the price tag is very high for them. We are very excited to get Danny on board as our #2 guy and he has a great contract as well. Keith and Bryan both played well for us last year but there contracts were too much for us in the roles they would play on our team. They should get good playing time in New York and we wish them all the best. This deal also allowed us to save 1.2 M in cap room for next year and we are now under the cap for next year.

At the moment the Thrashers lines look like the following:

St Louis Gomez Sullivan
Holmstrom Walker Brunette
Pandolfo Pohl Clowe
Larsen Petersen Kostopoulous

Blake D. Markov
Sydor Vlasic
Matvichuk Vandermeer

Roloson
Mason

Have to say I like the deal for Atlanta a lot. Markov is solid all around and has a great contract.. Atlanta improves big time and sheds some high priced vets at the same time.

Well if there was one player in the CPHL who I thought was still over rated after re-rates it is Markov. Plays 3rd pairing minutes, doesn't put up a lot of points, doesn't have a particularly outstanding +/-. I would have thought he'd rate like 75 to be honest. But that rating is there and good job by the Thrashers to target him and get him. Winning in this league does require you to go after the players who have good ratings.

LOL, Rangers received almost 3M in cap with the deal. The Salary is pretty to even.

The key to this deal was to add more assets into the organization, Smolinski had a solid year last year, Carney is a solid Defensive Dman and Woywitta played solid with the Blues and could be ready to finally make the team.
