Good luck pal. Could be worse - there could be a season of Flames hockey to miss, so this is as good a time as any.

Speaking of bum knees...

I discloated my right knee tonight again for the 8th time in about 2.5 years.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Its really frustrating. Hurts like hell and puts me out of action for anywhere from a few weeks to 6 months depending on how badly I do it. The problem lies with a weak/damaged patella so the knee doesn' t hold in place very well. I have a patella-stabilizing brace which I wear for any activity, I've gone through pysio and exercise the knee regularly. Still it keeps on happening. I'm way to young to have to stop playing sports but its getting to the point where I'm seriously considering quitting some of the sports I do play.

Anyone else had this problem...any advice? (besides see your doctor - been there, done that)

Sorry to hijak the thread.

A dislocated knee sounds to me like you might have weak musculature around it. Try bulding that up a bit before you go and jump back into the kick boxing ring. I've torn almost every ligament I have in my knees, and the only advice I have is exercise. Keep the muscles surrounding your knees in good shape (bike lots, do plenty of weight training exercises) and you should have less problems.

Not the most scientific advice, but it worked for me (so far).

Yes! I've dislocated my knees probably 4 times in 6 years... twice almost doing nothing (Tripped on my damn cat, and lost my balance on a swing at the driving range) It sucks for sure, you never know when they're going to go.

Have your knee's popped on you with the brace on?? I want one but don't want to spend the $50 if they aren't all that effective.

I'm only 21 btw...

Yes, it has popped a few times while wearing the brace. However what the brace does do is two things:

1. Has prevented it from dislocating at other times (I can feel when the brace kicks in and prevents a dislocation).
2. More importantly it seems to mitigate the damage caused by the dislocation.

For instance today I can fully flex my knee (with a great deal of pain mind you) where as before when I would dislocated it (sans brace) I would not be able to do that for weeks.

The other option I've heard is having surgery to shorten my patella and thus make it stronger. However, this carries some risk. Not ready to do that yet.
