It was definitely out of left field... really showed that all the spoilers out there are not totally accurate at all, and are really just pieces of reality.
Not sure if they are even building up to anything outwardly major... looks to me like the rest will be an internal struggle within Tony.

Very solid epsiode last night, my jaw dropped when it happened. Chris was my favorite character on the show.
Tony is messed up, what else can you say, those scenes with Melfi further proved that. But him being on peyote was pretty damn funny.

Holy. Frack. Awesome. I loved how Tony looked back and saw the baby seat and just realized that there is no hope for Christopher. Wow. And how hot was that girl in Vegas!?!

Saw the accident coming, but not what happened next. what's with the mind games Tony is playing on Carm, telling her he heard some relief in her voice on the news of the death. Whose more torn inside Tony or A.J.?

I think he was looking for some justification of his own feelings. And glad to see A.J. is back in full puss mode! "Why can't we all just get along! Waaaaaaaaaaaahhh!"
Man I was praying his therapist would go all Tupac on him and pull out a 9mm and plug him one.

I was pretty shocked. Is Chase trying to show that Tony is really just a Thug who cares only about himself? I mean, he is a criminal, yet he is a very popular tv character. Does Chase want us to hate him? Tony has done bad things all his life. But what a change. Killing Christopher with no remorse. When Christopher was shot, Tony was very upset. What a differance a few years make.

I think a lot changed between the two. Chris using, Adriana becoming a FBI leak, The Almost affair with Ade (which if not for Tony B would have been it anyway), Cleaver, Julianna... and thats just the things he knows about.
Chris was incredibly dangerous to Tony... and an opportunity came for him to quietly knock him out, and he did it. Tony has always been pragmatic. I'm not loving the fear and loathing in Las Vegas stuff... but it was a very good episode.

Actually, I disagree as I saw it in a completely different way.
I think throughout the entire life of The Sopranos, we've been presented with a Tony Soprano who, although bad, always seemed to have remorse for his actions. We saw him constantly struggle with living with his actions time and time again.
But this episode was a little different and the ending, IMO is Tony finally putting to rest his internal struggles with the fear that he was going to be "punished" some time for his actions.
In the casino, we're given further indication of this when Tony throws his money on roulette and wins. And then wins again. And again. He says something like, "I killed him", and is so happy with the realization that there is no karma and he will not be punished for his actions, that he is thrown back on to the floor in a heap of laughter.
And then of course, in the end, when he screamed "I get it!" at the skies, it really sealed the deal in my eyes that Tony finally does "get it". Karma doesn't exist. There's no "higher being" watching him and punishing him for his crimes. I could be totally out to lunch here, but I bet Tony comes back for the remainder of the series even more ruthless than ever before.
He takes New York out and any one else he feels like taking out.

I actually thought that whole gambling, yelling at the sunset thing was all a hallucination... he's probably still laying by the toilet... or worse, I hope it wasn't an allusion to him still being comatose. Since there was that beacon-like flash in the bathroom and again at the sunset... I dunno, made me wonder.
I think it was meant to show that his luck was about to change... I think it in fact goes the other way. NJ is in no shape to take out NY. Or, there is the theory of Tony being in his own personal hell... remember that story that one guy said about the twilight zone episode where hell was winning every bet and being loved by everyone?

Very good points! I'm still an episode behind you guys(have the new one on my comp, but am too tired tonight, I'll have to get fully caught up tomorrow FINALLY--just began watching the series this January), so the answers may have already been revealed in the next episode, but I agree that the flash probably meant it was a hallucination. I never even considered that until I read your post, but in hindsight I am very positive this is what it was.
Too bad to see Chris killed. I never liked him the entire series, but he began to grow on me the past couple seasons, especially this year. I am happy to say I have absolutely NO IDEA how the final three episodes are going to turn out.
