Seeking Paint Sprayer Advice

We need to paint a screen door, some chairs and our fence. Does anybody have any advice about whether sprayers work well, how messy are they, are they better/worse for small projects or big, do they work for fences, do you have to tarp the other side of the fence and if so is it worth it?

Also, is it worth buying one or renting from Home Depot? Are the commercial ones significantly better and/or easier to use?

I used for my kitchen ceiling recently. 100 for a 24hr rental. Very easy to use, but they suck up the paint quick - be prepared for that. Smooth even strokes. Putting up a trap for over spray and neighbor protection is recommended. But yah they are very easy to use. (I rented a commercial one).
