Default Re-rate Update

Folks,

We are halfway though the re-rate process. Specifically the defense and the goaltending.

So let's talk about these new ratings. As always our goals were to have the ratings accurately reflect the NHL version of the player, both in terms of overall quality and attributes.

We also aimed to spread out the ratings a bit this time round. So you'll see the bottom end specifically a little lower, and we also moved up some people on the higher end, though the very upper boundry remains the same.
What did we look at?

Goalies
- Are they are #1 goalie or a backup? Here we look at games played, are they the defacto #1, did they play the games for their teams in the playoffs? Did they lose their #1 job?
- How good a #1 goalie are they? Here we look at games played, and of course stats. We also look at how good the team is they play in front of, but this gets difficult.
- How good a backup are they? Same as above

Defense

Probably the most challenging thing to rate as you can't go on points and plus/minus also has its flaws. So here we looked at:
- Stats as always
- Minutes played
- Depth charts
- Tenure

Of course there is subjectivity involved in all of this. We do our best. Its a big task and a lot of work. Which is why complaining about re-rates is not tolerated. There is no perfect system and you either trust us to do these or you don't. And if you don't, you probably should think about your place in the league. That sounds harsh but evertime we do one re-rate, at least one GM doesn't hear this message and gets canned. Let's avoid it this time shall we?

The new ratings are now posted on the site at: http://cphl.calgarypuck.com/pages/si...hlRosters.html

Remember this is defense and tending ONLY. Forwards have not been touched or started right now.

Sorry forgot one thing. We of course have our rule about players 74 or higher in the minors having to clear waivers on the way up. Once re-rates are fully done there will be a window period where teams will be able to call up their newly rated players without these waivers - just like last year.

Until then though - don't worry about it.

could that just be the year end SIM generated re-rate you are seeing?

thanks for the work guys. I've made some blunders based on these, but those would be my fault

Thanks for the work, they seem pretty accurate all around. I think using ice time is a very good idea, especially in the case of defenseman. They're worth can't nearly be measured by stats because obviously some play a defensive game.

And I'm not complaining, more joking, but will Tyutin's DI ever get fixed? Did this guy kill a few people in western Canada that no one in NY knows about?

From the earlier thread I believe it was stated that if the player in the minors is 24 at the time of the recall than he is no longer subject to clearing waivers upon re-entry. For example Christian Ehrhoff on my team is now 74 OV and I'm hiding him in the minors. On July 1st he'll turn 24 in the CPHL, and I could call him up after that time without worrying about him clearing waivers if I understood the other thread correctly.

If not no big deal I can call him up before you set the drop dead date.

One of our primary aims is to find stuff like this and correct it but this one got through. Its been fixed now.

If you find something like this you can let us know but make sure you understand the difference between complaining and bringing a wacked rating to our attention.

A wacked rating is one where a proven NHLer has something like DI below 50. If you see somethign like this let us know. This is NOT an opportunity for you to tell us though that you think your players SC is not quite high enough.

John Grahams OV is whacked, it is too high!!!

Would you like a heads up on any forwards on our team that might be a bit whacky? i.e. Tuomo Ruutu's 47 DI rating?

A wacky rating that comes to mind is Barett Jackman. Not sure he should really be the CPHL's biggest goon.
