Default Willie Nelson is coming to town...

I may get laughed at, but for anyone who wants to see one of the last true country acts alive, Willie Nelson will be playing the Saddledome June 22 and Rexall June 23.

Being a diehard outlaw country fan, I wouldn't miss it for anything.

Is it me or does country music absolutely suck. Five years ago I thought it was bad, but it's even worse now. Johnny Cash and Waylon are probably rolling in their graves.

I saw him at Coachella this summer and he was absolutely fantastic. He's still a great musician and he obviously has a great stage presence.

This will be my third time seeing him in concert. Would have loved to see him in his glory days touring with Waylon.

Pretty easy to do that. Just type ticketmaster.ca into your browser and check it out.

Looks like there are some pairs available in the 200 level.

Laughed at?

I think you underestimate the musical tastes of calgarypuck!

Red Headed Stranger is one of the greatest albums ever recorded. Willie will be here in Wichita in the next few weeks as well. Unfortunately, I will miss another opportunity to see an artist I really, really want to see a mere half mile from my house...just add him to the list..

Whenever it comes up that I listen to guys like Willie, Cash, Waylon, Haggard, George Jones, Kristofferson, Tom T. Hall, Billy Joe Shaver etc etc.... the first thing most people say is "Why is a young guy like you listening to that. My Grampa listens to that"

I usually proceed to tell them that their grampa has good taste, and then say that if you weren't brainwashed into listening to the "pop country" they force people to hear on the radio now, you would learn to appreiciate what real country music is.

What?! No Hank Williams (the original, not his crappy son, Jr.)?

"You know that pop country really sucks" - Hank III

I like Hank too. "Alone and forsaken" and "Lost Highway" are great songs.

haha, my mom LOVES Willie I mean LOVES the guy. I had to indure years upon years of his twangy singing, and hated every minute of it up until 10 or so years ago. I like the guy now so all is good. I bought my mom a pair of front row center tickets for her and my dad's 47th wedding anniversary, my dad is so so on Willie.

anyone who laughs at willie nelson deserved to get punched in the dick. seriously, he's the type of guy that everyone respects, no matter what. the same was true of johnny cash. i sort of always tell people that if they ever meet a man who doesnt like johnny cash, walk away, they are not worth knowing.

but like johnny was, willie is a legend, and a great storyteller. Country for the most these days is absolutely horrible...I can't even find the right words to describe how dissapointing it is compared to the classics. Luckily there are a couple people still making good music these days....Alberta's Corb Lund being one of them.

Willie Rules!

I saw him last year when he came through. Great show, and he sounded awesome for a 72 year old man. One of his sons plays with him, and he's quite the Blues guitarist. The crowd ranged from colledge kids to 80 year olds. You won't find that at many concerts. I loved the die hard fans with the head bands and fake braids. Classic stuff.

Didn't Ol' Willie get busted for having a bunch of pot on his bus recently? He's been busted so many times and yet still glides through the border crossings. Maybe its becuase he's a senior!!

I havent relayed this story on CP til now.

3 years ago when i was working with the hockey team, he was doing a show while the club was on the road. His legendary bus was parked outside the back of the rink where i enetered and exited to get to my office.

The afternoon of the sound check i was leaving early to go to a meeting and then jet home before heading back for the show. I walked out and was passing the bus when the door opened and out he popped with some others. He looked at me and said hello. I was stumped for a second as there he was 3 feet away and one of my alltime favorite perfomers. I said a big hello back and shook his hand. He noticed my shirt with the team logo and we talked about that for minute and he asked me if I was coming to the show. I told him I wouldnt miss a thing and would be back before the doors opened. He then floored me when he said that I should knock on the door of the bus when I got back and drop in before showtime. Needless to say I was there an hour before i had planned and joined him and his band along with a few others on the bus as he "prepared" for curtain time.

Absolutely awesome guy and what an amazing experience, one of my best days ever.

Without getting into to much detail...yes the rumors are all true. It was hilarious to watch and be part of.

If you want a good Willie song, download "Cowboys are frequently secretly fond of each other". He recorded it in the 80's but didn't release it until after Brokeback Mountain.
