Default Yankees considering voiding Giambi contract

In the Aaron thread I posted an AP story with a quote by Giambi:
Quote:
"I was wrong for doing that stuff," Giambi told the newspaper Wednesday before the Yankees played the Chicago White Sox. "What we should have done a long time ago was stand up -- players, ownership, everybody -- and said: 'We made a mistake.'

"We should have apologized back then and made sure we had a rule in place and gone forward... . Steroids and all of that was a part of history. But it was a topic that everybody wanted to avoid. Nobody wanted to talk about it."
This was the first time he has publicly admitted to steroid use. Previously, it was known because it was leaked from the Grand Jury testemony, but since that leak was illegal, MLB would not (could not?) act on it.

Now, since he has admitted it, the Yankees are looking at voiding his contract. link
Quote:
Citing unnamed sources, the paper reports that the Yankees will consider voiding Giambi's contract if it's determined he used steroids after they signed him as a free agent in 2001.
The baseball commissioner's office intends to investigate reported remarks by Giambi that the sport should apologize for use of performance-enhancing drugs and the Yankees star's comment that he was "wrong for doing that stuff."

He was very careful with the specific words he used. I'm not sure if the Yankees can actually get it voided unless he says "I did steriods".

"That stuff" ain't gonna cut it IMO.

However, when he says it didn't help him hit homers? Oakland Giambi was a better player than NYY Giambi. By a fair bit too.

Yeah, I've since read an article where some MLB suits have said something like "technically, he hasn't really admitted anything"

And now word leaks out that Giambi failed an amphetamines test at some point in the past year. This is no coincidence, Giambi has ticked off someone at league headquarters.

Yup - http://tsn.ca/mlb/news_story/?ID=208600&hubname=

- Jason Giambi failed an amphetamines test within the last year, the New York Daily News reported Wednesday.

The newspaper reported that after the failed amphetamines test, Giambi is subjected to six additional tests for one year. The newspaper did not cite any sources in its report.
