Champions League Anyone?
I saw a thread on Euro but not on CL. Anyone watching Roma-Man U? I'm a Roma fan, so this is big for me, if we can keep a clean sheet or get some goals, we can finish Man U and move on to the semis. I was not a big soccer fan but during the lockout i watched a lot of Champions League, then Euro and World Cup, which turned me into a bigger fan. I just ordered an Eto'o Barca jersey (unicef long sleeve) and Totti Roma jersey off ebay and a Drogba for my brother. Looking forward to hearing from the soccer fans on the boards.

Talk about not living up to hype...6-1? I know Man U was the front runner...but WTF? That's like winning 12-1 in hockey...

7-1! In soccer? Ouch:
http://www.uefa.com/competitions/ucl...report=rp.html
A goal behind from the first leg, Sir Alex Ferguson's men blew their opponents away with four first-half strikes from Michael Carrick, Alan Smith, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo. Further efforts after the break from Ronaldo, Carrick and Patrice Evra completed a remarkable 8-3 aggregate success for a United team who will fear neither prospective semi-final opponent, AC Milan or FC Bayern München, after this display.

My jaw dropped when I saw that. Roma totally forgot to show up. Its not like they have a bad team either, they have some great defenders, midfielders and when Totti is on his game, he's in the top echelon of world class.
Good on Man U to keep the score down... (jk)... those were some amazing goals.
In other news, Mourinho, err, Chelsea live to see another day, squeaking out a 2-1 win.

Roma has only let in 5 goals in their first 9 matches in the Champions league, then they let in 7 today. Unbelievable. Roma looked absolutely brutal on the back end, like absolutely atrocious. Man U's second goal was a thing of beauty. One touch soccer all the way from their own half and clinical finish by Smith. Man U really impressed me but not as much as Roma disappointed.
Having said all that, my boy, Cristiano, 2 goals.....THE BEST IN THE WORLD!!!

I usually miss this games due to not knowing when they're on, but I was lucky enough to tune into this one. I'm from England and cheer for them in Euro/World Cup competition, and I support all the England teams in UEFA (though I don't have a favorite team for the Premiership). So I enjoyed it. Must have sucked being a Roma fan though.
Still hate Ronaldo because of the World Cup though, so I'm in a bit of a dilemma.

While Bayern are the comeback experts, this is also a surprising and disappointing display. They had pole position going in, since they had the away goal advantage. Pretty sad performance so far for a home game.

well, it's chelsea v. liverpool, and ManU v. AC Milan in the semi finals. 3 of 4 teams are english...that bodes well for the EPL.

they play two games (legs). the aggregate it the total score of both games together. if it is tied in ovreall score after full time in the second game, the team with the most road goals in the two games is declared the winner. if they have equal road goals, the game then goes to extra time to determine the wnner.

Keep in mind, away goals count as 1.5 in extra time

I always thought the away goals rule was completely arbritary.
Why should they be worth more? A goal is a goal.
Consider this scenario:
1st leg : Team A (home) 1, Team B (vis) 1
2nd Leg : Team B (home) 0, Team A (vis) 0
Aggregate = 1:1
But, Team B wins because of the away goal rule? WTF? They scored an away goal; so what? They also allowed a goal.
Lame.

It's alot harder to score on the road than at home, especially in European football. Galatasary (Turkey) haven't conceded a goal at home in thirteen years.

i like the rule, it takes a great team to score on the road let alone win against the best in europe...and we see less games decided in penalties because of it.

I was really surprised to see Roma beat Man-U in the first match and thought the Red Devils were really in tough after that game. Losing really early in the game Scholes was tough though.
My $$$ is on Man-U vs Chelsea with Rooney and crew taking it.
