Does anyone know of any decent free websites that offer help or tutorials on Adobe Photoshop??
Or does anyone know how to turn a picture into black and white except keep parts of it color...
Basically what I am trying to do is I have a picture of my cousin from a wedding and want to turn it black and white except keep parts of it color (like the flowers and so on). I have been trying to fool around with it a bit but getting to frustrated.
Thanks in advance!

what tool do you use to select the one item...everytime i try to grab the part I want it goes all weird or won't grab it.

I'm still trying to figure out to change to lab mode and take off the A/B channel to get the best black and white photo.
The channel mixer, imo, gives the best B&Ws. Certainly the most control. Just go into the channel mixer and click the 'monochrome' checkbox. Then play with the sliders to get the result you want.
The last link is a program that auto colours I think. I never tried it out as I had to use the other ways for the assignment.
Edit: I just re-read the post and it seems you want something a bit different. My assignment was to fully colourize a black and white photo. I'll leave the links up anyway.

Reason: Missread post
A more "controlled" method is to:
Change your original image to a layer
Create a duplicate of this layer
Desaturate the top layer
Use a soft eraser set at 50% or less and erase the desaturated layer slowly.
When done just flatten the image.
The advantage of this method is it's not as "harsh" of a contrast between the colour and desaturated areas. You also get control over how far you want to go. It takes longer, but you get better results.
EDIT: You can combine this with the channel mixer suggestion black11 suggests.
