Default Adobe Photoshop Help Sites...

Does anyone know of any decent free websites that offer help or tutorials on Adobe Photoshop??

Or does anyone know how to turn a picture into black and white except keep parts of it color...

Basically what I am trying to do is I have a picture of my cousin from a wedding and want to turn it black and white except keep parts of it color (like the flowers and so on). I have been trying to fool around with it a bit but getting to frustrated.

Thanks in advance!

I'm sure you've probably figured this out, but select the item you want to keep in color, invert the selection, desaturate photo...that should work.

Edit: That's for the newer versions, unsure what it would be for the older ones.

Using jar_e's method, this is what it looks like:

I'm still trying to figure out to change to lab mode and take off the A/B channel to get the best black and white photo.

The channel mixer, imo, gives the best B&Ws. Certainly the most control. Just go into the channel mixer and click the 'monochrome' checkbox. Then play with the sliders to get the result you want.

I had a project at school that required me to do this. Here are the websites that I bookmarked for help.

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/421008...hite_to_color/

http://www.absolutecross.com/tutoria...os/colorizing/

http://www.swedesignz.com/photoshop/Image_Coloring

http://www.planetphotoshop.com/color...ite-photo.html

http://digital-photography-school.co...-cs2-tutorial/

http://www.devlobby.com/showthread.php?p=599

The last link is a program that auto colours I think. I never tried it out as I had to use the other ways for the assignment.

Edit: I just re-read the post and it seems you want something a bit different. My assignment was to fully colourize a black and white photo. I'll leave the links up anyway.

A more "controlled" method is to:
Change your original image to a layer
Create a duplicate of this layer
Desaturate the top layer
Use a soft eraser set at 50% or less and erase the desaturated layer slowly.
When done just flatten the image.

The advantage of this method is it's not as "harsh" of a contrast between the colour and desaturated areas. You also get control over how far you want to go. It takes longer, but you get better results.

EDIT: You can combine this with the channel mixer suggestion black11 suggests.
