Default Calgary Golf Courses

Hey all,

Just moved to Calgary, and the family is coming up for a weekend, so I'm looking for advice on golf coures within like an hour drive of the city. What are some of the better ones under 50 or 60 bones? (I know there aren't all that many).

Thanks

shaw-nee slopes. not the greatest course but its still nice and they dropped their prices this year. 50 bucks for 18 and after 5pm its $20 twilight. www.shaw-neeslopes.com. or try a city couse but good luck getting on during the weekend. I have heard that beaverdam in madden is nice which is up north. But besides those look at courses just outside the city. Nanton, D'arcy Ranch, Highwood, strathmore, they are nice and usually chaper. D'arcy probably the most expensive of the group but its one of my favorites.

But the set-up makes it ridiculous to walk...most of the holes are too far apart.

I would agree with D'arcy Ranch. 65 bucks for a green fee, it's worth every penny if you ask me. It's a walkable course for the most part, but a cart is probably prefered for the older crowd. I think this is one of the best bargain courses in the area.

Water Valley, just past Cochrane in the far NW, is a great value. Green and lush, quiet, challenging, (etc) and cheap!

Not sure when they opened for the season though...

Nanton has a really nice 18 hole golf course. It's not hard to get a tee time and the best part is the price of $32.00 for 18 holes. You'd be hard pressed to find cheaper golf in the Calgary area.

Avoid Heatherglen. There are more nicer courses around than that one.

I'll recommend a few courses that have already been mentioned by some of the other posters.

1) Water Valley - I've never played it but heard really good things about it...costs $32 on weekends

2) Nanton - played this in a tournament and it was also really quite nice. $27 for a round on weekends.

3) Innisfail - This is a great golf course. It's a little more expensive ($79 per on weekends), but the adult twilight at $59 is reasonable.

Water Valley is very similiar to Innisfail IMHO. I would guess most people would put Innisfail as the nicer one (and it should be, it is like twice the money) but Water Valley has more elevation change, which is a nice challenge i find.

Speargrass is about 20 min outside of town and a great course. You can play Mon and Tues daytime for $45.00.

Sweet, thanks for the advice guys. Probably going to try to get a time at the city courses, and if not, fall back on some of the others. Are the city courses much different in quality>?

Good luck getting a time at the city courses. They get booked up solid 5 days in advance. Your best best is to show up as a walk on and get on the waiting list. FWIW Maple Ridge in the SE is the best city course.

One that isn't on many people's radar is the Beaver Dam course in Madden (about 20-30 minutes north of the city up Symons Valley Road). $40 for 18 holes on the weekend.

Thanks for the heads up!

I'm always looking for cheap golf courses to try out.

For the price & location of it, I find it's not a bad course...it definitely has its challenges with smaller greens, elevation changes, etc, but it's worth the trip, and you get away from the crowds and dumbasses of city courses & Fox Hollow

Highland is the only way to go, $10 green fees while they're on their "temporary" greens (they're actually on the fairway).
