Default New cell phone, thoughts? Sony Ericsson K790

I am looking for some guidance from the CP gang.

Does anyone have any experience with this phone? I am looking to upgrade my current 3.5 year old no frills Nokia cell.

Thanks!

Hey, I just got it. Came from a Nokia 6620.

The camera option is sweet. A real camera capable of taking very decent photos. With 3.2Mp, pics looks great for sharing on computers and should be fine for 6x4 prints

Otherwise it is quite slick. Some things are different to work with, but I have only had it for 3 days. However, I am loving it - and being a new facebooker, I think the cam will be awesome.

I should also add that I love gadgets. So I love just playing around with it. If you are a luddite, then I am not sure what to recommend.

One thing to check- what's the software like? I recently saw a Motorola that only allowed 1 phone number per name, so you'd have top have Dave1, Dave2, Dave3, etc.

Also my previous phone; it was a temporary phone but the vibrate feature was so weak I would often never feel it.

I have the W810i from sony. They are great phones. My vibrate feature didnt work at first at all but now it does and its works good. My camera is only a 2.0 mp but still takes good shots. This is my first ericsson and i havent had a problem with it. Regarding the contacts, I know my phone allows me to have different numbers under one person.

I have been looking at that phone for myself just to get a better camera but i like the walkman feature in my phone. I upped it to a 4 gig mem card, its great for the gym or when I worked at a trucking company working on a forklift.

My last phone was a motorola v220 and I will never go to anything but a Sony ericsson from now on.

I have the phone and I really like it. The call quality is good and the gadgets are fun. I had lots of problems when I first got it , though; it froze and restarted all the time. I changed the SIM card and the freezing stopped. However, every time I turn the phone on after being off overnight, it freezes/restarts 2-3 times but then it is fine until its turned off again.

So cheap now! I paid $240 in November for mine

Speaking as someone who has owned a Sony Ericsson and as someone who has worked in the cellular industry, I would never buy one. I can't speak to this particular model but I've always found there phones to be pieces of crap.

I am also on the verge of upgrading here, need to sign a new contract but not sure which phone I want to go with. I am through Sasktel, here is a list of the phones available:

I am leaning towards the LG Chocolate, but am also considering a cheaper phone on a one year deal just to see what I can get next year, nothing really overly impresses me at this point.

Whats everyones experience with the Razor, Chocolate and Samsung A920?

I can only speak for the Razr, and the Chocolate. Big Razr fan, but I strongly dislike the Chocolate phone. I'm a Motorola guy, so my opinion isn't exactly neutral.

One big minus about the Chocolate, at least the Rogers version, the keypad does not light up. So if you're using it at night, you might be SOL.

Well, I'm sure you all know that I work for a cell phone company... so I'll tell you all this much: I get probably 10 complaints about motorola phones per week, compared with a total of 2 over the last 4 years for Samsung. I used to have quite a few LG complaints, but not as many recently. I tell everyone to stay away from motorola. Their whole marketing cheme is name brand alone, but the product they put out generally is crappier than that of other companies. Their phones break easier and they're harder to deal with for repair. Your phone likely will not last the term of it's contract.

That said, I'm not a fan of the chocolate slider either, but the flip version appears to be just fine. I'd take it over the razr any day of the week.

The way I'd rank manufacturers right now is:

Samsung
Nokia
LG
.
.
.
.
.
Motorola

We don't carry Sony, but then, there's a reason for that too...

Telus doesnt carry Sony, so you work for them?

Telus just blows.

Nothing wrong with Sony phones at all!

I have this phone, bought it in February, I just have to say this is a GREAT Phone...the 3.2 megapix camera is great, the zoom after the pic is taken is great too, you can really blow up the pic and see the far detail.....someone questioned the software? you can have at least more than 5 numbers for each person, the alarm in the phone has reoccurance, so for example if you need to wake up at 4 am every sunday, you can just set it once and it'll save it and kick in itself.....you can upgrade the memory upto one gig, good lil mp3 phone as well....other good fetures i prob cant remember....I havent had any problem with this phone at all, no freezing at all.

btw I bought mine off of Ebay, for $335 with shipping and all..I was at the Sony store in market mall today and the phone was priced at $440, so look on ebay if you can find a deal on there instead of going on a contract ( i hate contracts)...should be able to find one for less than $300 now....

pay $180 and get tied up for 3 years or $300 and no commitments at all?

I would recommend this phone for ya...

I have had the k790 for 6 months now. Great phone. I had a w810 before, and that has swayed me to purchase only sony phones from now on. The user interface i find is much better then the motorola UI (previously owned a razr). Camera is great, and the Xenon flash is excellent in dark settings. Bluetooth is great for transferring files as well as the a2dp feature.

With that being said, I wish it had the sony walkman 2.0 software. If your gonna be listening to alot of music from your phone, I'd suggest going the route of a Walkman phone. I hope im not hijacking the thread, but has anyone used the w850?

Oh right, and the battery life has far surpassed any other phone that i have ever owned.
