Default Political spat shuts down official languages committee

Good work opposition parties!

Quote:
The trouble began Tuesday when opposition members teamed up to vote out the Conservative chairman. The ouster of Guy Lauzon prompted the government to say he will not be replaced, and committees cannot sit without a chairman.

This immediately after Charest's Language minister says they will put additional affor into enforcing Bill 101.

There will be zero tolerance for any violations of Quebec's language laws, says the new minister responsible for enforcing the legislation.

In all fairness, calculoso, this sounds the work of all parties combined. Could the chair have been incompetent (relatively speaking)? Its possible. Could the opposition have done it to get their own guy/gal in? Yup. But the conservatives are the one holding off appointing a new chair. So to me, long story short, it sounds like all parties have a hand in this one - not just the opposition....

Heck...the Cons should just appoint Rob Anders to chair the committee and see how the opposition likes that!

From the story linked above:

"Government whip Jay Hill says the rules say the chair has to be a government member and he's not going to allow the opposition to dictate who that will be."

Sounds like they want to decide what goes on and instead will not get anything. That's where my comment came from.

It starts with the Doan fiasco, and now they don't have a committee at all. Good work!
