One-third of Canadians are workaholics: StatsCan
http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew...hub=TopStories
A new Statistics Canada study suggests one-third of Canadians identify themselves as workaholics and are more likely to be dissatisfied with the imbalance between their home and work life.
...
Among them, 39 per cent reported they usually work 50 hours or more per week.
...
Sixty-five per cent of workaholics reported they worried about not spending enough time with their family and friends compared to 45 per cent of non-workaholics who reported the same concern.
....
The study found that workaholics had the same amount of job satisfaction, compared to those who worked less, with no difference in financial satisfaction.
Keown said the study found the number of workaholics in Canada hasn't changed within the past 15 years, which suggests the results are really about people's

No wonder...we're so tired!
The population of Canada is 30 million.
11 million are retired, that leaves 19 million to do the work.
There are 5.5 million in school, which leaves 13.5 million to do the
work.
Of this there are 3 million employed by the federal government, leaving
10.5 million to do the work.
1 million are in the armed forces, preoccupied with killing terrorists,
which leaves 9.5 million to do the work.
Take from that total the 7 million people who work for Provincial and
city
Governments, and that leaves 2.5 million to do the work.
At any given time, there are 476,000 people in hospitals, leaving
2,024,000 to do the work.
Now, there are 1,211,998 people in prisons and 812,000 on Employment
Insurance and Welfare.
That leaves just two people to do the work.
You and I.
And there you are at your computer, reading jokes.
Nice.
Real nice.

Thats hilarious. I just started a job search because my stress to pay ratio is totally out of whack. I've even gone as far as looking into changing careers all together, all because of the reasons listed above.

The prophetic words of Billy Ray Cyrus . . . . with the important two sentences highlighted . . . . great song.
Artist/Band: Cyrus Billy Ray
Lyrics for Song: Busy Man
Lyrics for Album: Shot Full Of Love
There's a little boy out in the driveway
His basketball in hand
Saying Daddy could we play a little one on one
You pat him on the back and say not now son
I'm a busy man
His sister's out on the sidewalk
Setting up a lemonade stand
Hey Daddy don't you want to buy a glass from me
You say maybe later, can't you see I'm a busy man
You got to go, got to run
Hit it hard and get it done
Everyone can see you're going far
You got responsibilities
A crazy schedule that you keep
And when you say that time's a-wasting
You don't know how right you are
Busy man
There's a woman in the bedroom crying
Saying I thought we had plans
You say honey I'm sorry I'll make it up
When the job slows down and I'm not such
A busy man
You got to go, got to run
Hit it hard and get it done
Everyone can see you're going far
You got responsibilities
A crazy schedule that you keep
And when you say that time's a-wasting
You don't know how right you are
Busy man
Have you ever seen a headstone with these words
"If only I had spent more time at work"
There's a call one day from the office
They need you down in Birmingham
You say no way, the weekend's mine
I got plans with the kids and a date with my wife
I'm a busy man
You got to go, got to run
Take a break and have some fun
Those that love you most
Say you've come far
Got some new priorities
In that schedule that you keep
And when you say that time's a-wasting
Now you know how right you are
Busy man

OK, if 61% of workaholics are working less than 50 hours per week; then those people aren't workaholics in my book.
Which really means only about 13% of us are workaholics.

Thank God there's slackers like me to balance things out from the other end.
Who would have thought a Billy Ray Cyrus song would be so useful?

11 million are retired? I don't think so.
Canada's armed forces have 1 million people in them? I don't think so.
Canada's population is closing in on 34 million.
Those are some wacky stats.

It was an email I got…I think it’s a joke and those stats are exaggerated for humorous effect…I highly doubt they have any accuracy at all

I spend most of my work day on CP....does that make me a workaholic?

Not quite as good as Cow's, but I've taken the following song to heart a number of times when I start working too much...
Artist: Harry Chapin
Song: Cats In The Cradle
My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew
He'd say "I'm gonna be like you dad
You know I'm gonna be like you"
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home dad?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then
My son turned ten just the other day
He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today
I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok"
And he walked away but his smile never dimmed
And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him"
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then
Well, he came home from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
"Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head and said with a smile
"What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later, can I have them please?"
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then
I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time
You see my new job's a hassle and kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad
It's been sure nice talking to you"
And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man on the moon
When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

I would like to know how the questions were asked. If you ask someone if they could be spending more time with their family, of course most people would think that they could/should be spending more time with their family. Same with work. Almost everyone thinks they are working too much, who doesn't want to be working less? Seems this "study" has some inherent flaws.

I work for Statistics Canada, but did not work on this study and cannot speak to your concern. But each release we make at statcan.ca has a link to the methodology and usually the questionaire used in the survey.
This article was based on the data collected in section 4 of this questionnaire:

So basically, a third of canadian workers are underpaid.
