Wow. That is messed up right there…I can understand it’s a lifestyle choice and one that I respect but you need to get your priorities straight…I mean if you want to spare the life of a cow or a pig by not eating it than that’s fine, but is it worth the life of a child?

The vegans I have met have usually had a very good idea of nutrition. They know there are things in meat that they need to suppliment in their diet. These people must be a few bricks short of a load.

The headline should more accurately read "Idiots sentenced for starving their baby".

No doubt... every Vegan I've met tends to be very educated about getting the vitamens/proteins they lack by not eating meat. These people must have been (I know, not pc) ######s.

Obviously.

Not breastfeeding your child to me falls under two catagories. A) You are unable to breast feed. This is unfortunate. B) You're an idiot.

It's like trying to take a dump standing on your hands. The natural way also happens to be the best.

Wow what a bunch of idiots, too bad the baby was given a choice.

A vegan diet must such a huge pain. You would have to make almost all of your meals on your own. I think there is only a handful of restaurants that you could eat a decent meal at in the city. I've never seen a ready made vegan meal at the grocery store...oh wait I have; lettuce.

You do end up doing most of your own cooking, but if you like to cook you'll end up saving money, whilst eating delicious vegan delights. Here in vancouver, I'm fortunate enough to have 3 vegan restaurants within a 15 minute walk of me, which is nice. Also, you can get 'vegan' food at a lot of restaurants in a city, especially asian and indian restaurants.

Also, I imagine there are a few vegan options at your grocery store (like samosas) but who wants ready made meals from safeway? Gross.

Did anyone else think of Futurama when they read this?

Leela: "You're vegetarians. Who cares what you do?"
Hippy: "Shut up!"
Leela: "Animals eat other animals. It's nature."
Hippy: "No it isn't. We taught a lion to eat tofu."
Lion: *cough cough*

having been forced to go to a few vegan places, I find that choice of word to be highly suspect.

I was vegan for 3 days. I then realized that I couldn't eat a regular pizza. That ended that for good. However, I have been a vegetarian for... lemme see... 16 years? Something like that.

But yeah, I know a couple vegans with children and they spent a LOT of time with a nutritionist to make sure that their baby was just as if not more healthy than the average child. Feeding a child a vegan diet isn't criminal in itself. Though I think the headline writer wanted to insuate as such. Or maybe I'm just paranoid.

Well, I didn't read the article, but I'd be willing to bet that these people weren't actually vegans, they just thought it up as an excuse.

Those are just pathetic excuses for parents - it makes no difference if they were vegans or not. Children that young should either be nourished with breast milk or formula - and you can get vegan formula, so there's no excuse for feeding their 6 week old baby apple juice. That is just sad.

I wonder if the state prison has a vegan meal on its menu?

Oh dear....

This is a UK group. Hopefully this couple will be forced to live on orange jumpsuits and soap on a rope.

I hope they refuse a "non-vegan" menu so they can suffer like they made their child suffer.
