How did Bonsai Kitten not make that list? There are still papers (Winnipeg Sun) writing about how bad it is as late as last year.

The "Metallica sues band over use of E and F chords" was a good one.

Yeah, that was well done. I think there is still a large portion of people who believe that Bonsai Kittens exist.

This is probably the best link about it:
http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/bonsai.asp

Basically the hoax was a sick joke started by somebody that you could buy a kitten that had all of its bones broken and stuffed inside a jar. The kitten would grow and fill up the entire jar.

That was an awesome article ... I've received about half of those, the other half, not so much. The giant dog and cat were awesome ... would have fooled me, I'm sure ...

I knew it was entirely fake when you piece together his description of the future: "However the days of mega-stars playing multiple track studio produced music and lip-synching on a huge stage are pretty much isolated to your time period. Like everything else, music is much less centralized. Music is much more of a personal experience."

Other language along those lines just seems like a utopiaist's grudges about reality. Combine this with his musings on mad cow disease the collapse of the modern industrial complex and I knew then it was completely false.
