Your top 5 computer games
All the reminiscing of old games in the Blizzard thread got me thinking about my favourite computer games of yesteryear and today. What are your top 5 computer games of all time? They don't have to be in any particular order or even be five for that matter. I would say mine are: - Diablo II
- Starcraft
- Half-Life
- Duke Nukem 3D
- Doom
Let's see your top 5.

Doom - Amazing for its time, and totally addictive. The atmosphere was next to none. I can still remember the sounds of breathing as the bad guy got closer and closer to you. And the BFG was the ultimate weapon
Duke Nukem 3D - Shame what happened to the sequel. But the humor aspect was out of this world. Classic lines like "I'm gonna rip off your head and **** down your throat" and handing a bill to a stripper while saying "Dance" were amazing. The multi-player frag mode was ahead of its time.
Wing Commander (The entire series) - I'm a huge fan, and it spawned a series of well written books. A totally immersive environment. I still remember the first game, pulling a cut throat move on 5 Dralthi's and watching them after burn past me to turn onto my tail while thier pilots sent insults my way. There is a new game coming out called Arena which will finally bring in the multiplayer mode that Prophesy was sorely missing
C & C - Kane was a creepy character, and the Red Alert series probably surpassed the original. General's was lacking a bit and I haven't played the new one yet. But building an army of mammoth tanks and doing shore bombardments while sending in an airstrike. For a war junky like me was the ultimate.
Tie Fighter/X-Wing - I liked Tie Fighter better, but X-Wing let you recreate the Death Star mission. But who dosen't want to play the bad guy, flying into battle with no shields and two blasters. Completely fun, and one of the best story lines in the Star Wars universe outside of the movies.
HR X-Com the original one - A turn based kill the aliens while you build up your bases and your response units. I don't know how often I would be up at 3:00 in the morning watching my assault transport as it spiraled into the ocean carrying 20 of my best troops that I had lovingly built from scratch and lavishly equiped. Or when my turn ended and everyone looked safe only to see a grenade bouncing towards them from the shadows of a burnt out house.

I don't like picking a recent entry for any list like this (top 5 movies, songs, etc.), but based on the sheer number of hours I've spent playing it since it was released (which isn't likely to stop anytime soon), it's impossible not to pick:
1. World of Warcraft
for the top spot.
Rounding out the top 5:
2. Wing Commander: Privateer
3. SimCity 2000
4. Civilization 2
5. Battlefield 1942
Honourable mentions (in no order):
Total Annihilation
Call of Duty
TIE Fighter
IL-2 Sturmovik
Crimson Skies
No One Lives Forever
Day of the Tentacle

I only ever got 'hooked' on a couple different games, the most addicted I've been, in order of highest addiction level to lowest:
Diablo II
Sim City
Rollercoaster Tycoon
I'm also addicted to Pogo, but that's different.

Computer games, eh?
1. Civ IV - III was good, but I'm glad they got rid of corruption in IV, and the AI of the workers are a fair bit smarter meaning they will not suck if you leave them on auto
2. Starcraft - All-time favourite RTS. The S. Koreans turned playing this game into an art . Just watch any Boxer replay
3. Sim City 2000 - Four wasn't bad, three sucked, but 2000 had those wicked bio-domes!
4. Asheron's Call - Favourite MMORPG, until they "fixed" the bug that got rid of slide casting, thus turning up the suck in PK.
5. Monkey Island (with honourable mention to Monkey Island 2) - What can I say? I'm a stickler for slapstick humour and insult fighting

I play Out of the Park Baseball 2007 almost constantly every night while watching TV, hanging with the wife. It's a text sim, but is more immersive than any game you can imagine, if you like baseball that is.

1. Civilization III
2. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
3. Civilization IV
4. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
5. Half Life 2/Mafia
Honourable mention goes to Civ I and Civ II. If Civ I hadn't come with my first computer with Windows 3.11 and 600mb HHD back in the day, I don't know where i'd be.
IMO, the Civilization series and Elder Scrolls series are the greatest games ever created.

#1 = Ultima Online - Birth of the graphic MMO. No MMO will ever match what UO had in it's prime. RIP UO.
#2 = DOOM - How many hours did I spend Death Matching with my high school buddies? Awesome game, awesome memories.
#3 = Neverwinter Nights - Greatest RPG game made to date.
#4 = Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness - More fun than Starcraft, in my opinion.
#5 = X-Wing / TIE Fighter - CaptainCrunch beat me do it. Glad to see someone else with it in their top 5 tho. TIE pilots have my utmost respect.
Runners Up:
Diablo
Star Wars: Rebel Assault 2
Star Wars: Dark Forces
Baldurs Gate
Starcraft
LOL at SkiFree! Awesome.
