Al Gore in Person
Did anyone get a chance to take in Mr. Gore's presentation at the Chamber last night?

I think it was invite only, and if there where tickets available, and you could afford to go, not sure how much the price of admission would be. But i am guessing it was way out of the league of the "regular" joe.

You could get tickets off of ticketmaster and I don't think they were that much money.

Ah, there you go.
I bet the average joe spends more than that in two weeks on beer. Hardly unaffordable.

Gore attended Washington's private St. Albans School through high school. In 1965, he enrolled at Harvard College, the only school to which he applied. His roommate (in Dunster House) was actor Tommy Lee Jones. After finding himself bored with his classes in his declared English major, Gore switched majors and worked hard in his government courses and graduated cum laude from Harvard in June 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in government. After returning from the military he took religious studies courses at Vanderbilt University and then entered its Law School. He left Vanderbilt after completing the required one-year Rockefeller Foundation scholarship for students returning to secular work to run for Congress in 1976

$160 on a one night event is "hardly unaffordable" for the average joe? Wow, I guess I'm less of an average joe than I thought, I guess I'm just poor scum, how do I even get by.

Did you buy tickets to any of the playoff games in 03/04?
Its not really about it being a one night event than being a rare chance to see a speaker that is literally dividing the world on an issue that was not a major political or economic consideration even a decade ago... in the middle of the energy capital of our country. I am sure that the event was well worth the price of admission.
If average joe doesn't want to be part of that conversation, then he won't pay to be there.
If he wanted to go, he would've paid.

Here's a funny thing about Al Gore's little visit. His convoy drove by my office today - which consited of the following:
6-7 Full size sedans (at least one V8 Cadillac which was no doubt bullet proof while others were Chevy Impalas)
1 CPS Dodge Ram Truck Unit
6 (Minimum) CPS Harley Davidson Motorcycles
I'm sure HAWC1 was in the air somewhere as well, but didn't see it.
Along with other uncounted CPS vehicles that drove by before I ran to the window to look what the comotion was.
So...let me get this straight. He is in town for a talk about Global Warming?! It's so hypocritical it's friggin insane.

Al Gore the attention whore.
i grew up in the 80's there was plenty of consideration given to enviromental issues back than, this isnt anything new. its not like the car pool lanes just started to show up on our highways over night.
I wonder why it costs 160 bucks to get in? Price of fuel to high to get him around?
People always like to point out how all the naysayers are backed financially by big oil....at a 160 bucks a seat - is there no financiall perks in this for Gore?

Mel, how strong was the Green Party in the 80s?
There is plenty to be skeptical about with what Gore is presenting about CO2 emissions and the link to global warming.
I posted this because I am interested in hearing first hand accounts of what sort of questions were thrown his way. We are a very well educated cty that has an extremely vested interest in how this all shakes out. I am sure that there were a few in the crowd that did not pull their punches. I would've enjoyed it to see what all of the GLOBAL fuss is about.
$160 isn't much to pay to be part of that.
And of course there is financial perks in it for Gore. Hasn't he recently established companies built for the sole purpose of generating carbon credits that can be sold to other industries? The man has a plan and is really going for it. You have to admire him for that.

The point is that it wasn't an event reserved for bluebloods and the super-rich. I'm an Average Joe. If I wanted to listen to this speech, I could have gone, and I wouldn't have to sell a kidney for the ticket. 160 bucks sounds like a lot, but we have thousands of average Joes disappointed they didn't get to pay a lot more than that for a ticket to the Police concert.
Anyway, I doubt I'm the only one not surprised that this has turned into personal attacks on the messenger, instead of a discussion of the message itself.
Did anyone actually go?

When you are an important American politician making a big presentation that kind of convoy is necessary. He can't exactly take the C-train.

What does the Green Party have to do with it.
Again does Al Gore have a science degree? Is Al Gore making money off his campaign?
Everyone loves to discredit the naysayers (some who are actual scientists in this field and some who also may have financial considerations) Gore is no different.
i dont admire attention whores. We saw his act in the 80's before he decided to run in 1988 presidential race - trying to bring attention to himself by going after the recording industry.
Dont be suprised when his name is on the ballet in '08.
I understand his message, he doesnt need to play the hero..and actually makes himself look stupid considering his movie doesnt have much support in the scientific community and is full of scientific holes and inaccuracies.
I am aware of both sides of the debate, and much of it comes with alot of ignorance from both sides.

No. This was clearly answered above.
Why does this matter?
According to your logic, you should never talk about the Calgary Flames on calgarypuck if you never played in the NHL. Or, you should never talk about politics unless you have a degree in Political Science.

If there's one thing I learned from Idaho schools it's that if Al Gore was President we'd all be speaking Arabic and/or dead.
