I'll take a look at my contracts tomorrow and see if I can get you a deal (yes, I give CPer discounts too). Not competition with Sample00, our companies get along great! I just don't know if he's got good Asia contracts (we specialize in South Pacific/Asia/Africa only).

When I flew to Bangkok in January China Airlines and Eva Airlines were both the cheapest. Significantly so. I would imagine they're likely your best bet if money if your biggest concern.
Good luck with your trip! let me know if you have any questions. I just got home last Friday after being around SE Asia for 3.5 months. Amazing place.

how about we tag team and see what prices we can come up with.
I got no issue in sharing this kinda thing with my buddy Scrambler. He is good at what he does with SP/Asia and africa.

That would be awesome. I really appreciate the help.
I'll send you a PM.
Any reviews from anyone on EVA airlines? That is who we got the cheapest quote through. I had never even heard of them before.

Ok, here's the best I've found:
*CP discounts applied
United Airlines
$1684.00 incl tax and fuel
Calgary to Bangkok via San Francisco and Tokyo
Bit more availability on this fare and good connections both ways.
Singapore Airlines
$1695.00 incl tax and fuel
Calgary to Bangkok via Los Angeles or San Francisco and Singapore
Opportunities to stop in Singapore and Tokyo if you want.
Cathay Pacific
$1728.00 incl tax and fuel
Calgary to Bangkok via Vancouver and Hong Kong.
Most expensive option but in my opinion the best airline. Good connections and you get a free stopover in Hong Kong if you want. Return dates flexible too.
PM me if you are interested in one of these and would like an itinerary done up. Let me know your preferred dates and how flexible you are on them.
Cheers.
P.S. Note on EVA Air, they are a Taiwan based airline with a very good reputation (for the most part all of the Asian carriers have excellent quality - Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines have consistantly won 'best airline of the year' awards for the last decade)

Singapore or Cathay all the way, BUT looking at those options go with Cathay!!
I flew that exact routing last year and it was fantastic. It is fast and direct, the planes are great, the service and perks are great and visiting the magnificent Hong Kong airport is a stop all its own!!
I am SO jealous.... i miss SE Asia sooooo much...
Claeren.

I just got back from Thailand flying with Cathay Pacific, and I'd say that even though they are the most expensive, they are proabably worth the extra $50.

About 10 years ago I flew to Singapore/Austrailia on Singapore airlines and they were incredible. That is why I had originally requested Singapore airlines but now after talkig to Scrambler a bit I think we are going to try Cathay. They sound as good and we are going to make a stop in Hong Kong for a few days.
Getting pumped for this.....should be a blast.
By the way Scrambler has been great so far. If anyone is going to Asia give the guy a call and he can hook you up.

I've flow on Eva, Singapore and Cathay. I'd rank Eva as third on that list, but that is only because the other two have a very high standard. Eva is still very good - I don't think you can go wrong with many Asian carriers - they are so much better than the crap we have in NA.
I upgraded to their Evergreen class for just $50 more. Bigger seats, more leg room, totally worth it for a transpacific flight.

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack this thread but CP would definitely pull through again.
I'm heading out to HK for a Month in Early July and coming back Early August.
I might be in HK for a couple days and I will head down to Australia for sure (Mainly Sydney and Melbourne) for 2 weeks or so. Then i'm going back to HK for a remainder of the time. My plans to go to Malaysia and Singapore is still up in the air though.
I hope either Scrambler or Sample00 could give me a nice quote on a YYC --> HK flight. Don't mind connections at all.

I have nothing but great things to say about Singapore Airlines. On demand movies vs non-on demand movies (Cathay) would make or break it for me personally. Plus if you're on the Airbus flight (out of LA for sure) then you get leg rests. A+++!

Hey Scrambler,
The girlfriend and i are planning to go to Uganda early 2008, she has a friend that lives their and runs a tour guide company. I noticed that you specialize in African travel so i'm wondering if you can give me a heads up on what i will be looking at in terms of airfare and if you can recommend good seasons to travel. I said we are planning for early 2008 but the date isn't set in stone just yet.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, happy to help you get to the 'Pearl of Africa'!
The best time to visit Uganda is late December to late February, as this time of year is generally dry (though hot). A close second is the June to September period. Don't even think about trekking outside of these dry months.
Entebbe is the main airport there. Not a 'cheap' destination to get to, but not to bad in comparsion with other East African cities from North America. Lowest fare you'll get is via Europe and you can expect to pay around $2100 incl tax (assuming you're departing Calgary).

Would you be departing out of Ottawa?
If so, I can get a fare with Singapore Airlines that allows you to stop in Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia for $2375.00 or so. Sounds pricey, but July is high season and you are getting Asia and Australia (Melbourne or Sydney).
Cathay has a similar deal that gives you Hong Kong and Bangkok and Australia.
