Default Cell Phone Text Message Spam or "Identity Theft"?

I never use text messaging, but today I received a handful of text messages from a couple of different people as if they were replying to some text messages I had sent them. (One of them wondering who I was etc.) I'm guessing someone is sending text messages using my number via a web site or something. (Apparently, you can go to a web site and send fake text messages originating from any number you want.) This is kind of weird and disturbing. I tried to do a reverse phone lookup on the numbers that showed in the text messages I received, but that doesn't work on cell phones. Any suggestions?

what numbers showed in the messages? Were there websites in the messages, or things like 'friend added' or anything? What exactly did the messages say? Are you a Telus customer?

Uh, yeah you can. At least with Telus. See that little call back box? That's the number that will show up. Rogers doesn't have that though.

Careful receiving those messages that come from the internet. I jsut found out that you get charged for receiving them!
I don't know exactly how that works, but apparently it does...
