Winnipeg-Midway through the first round of the playoffs, the Winnipeg Jets decided to make some noise this morning. GM Walsh announced the team has decided to relieve head coach Brent Sutter of his duties. The decision is effective immediately.

It's never an easy day when you tell someone that they have lost their job. I didn't see enough energy, emotion, or consistency from the players this season and unfortunately it is easier to change one coach rather than 23 players.

As of this morning we are looking for a new head coach and hope to have a decision made fairly soon. We wish Brent all the best.

Jets Coach Search Update:

The Jets have narrowed their short list down to one candidate. The Jets and the agent have a deal in place but are negotiating the length of the coaches contract. An official announcement is expected soon.
