Default Spurrier says confederate flag need to come down...

..from in front of the state house in South Carolina. I have to agree that it probably shouldn't be flying, but this statement likely isn't going to make him more popular in the state. I can't believe that they still fly it, interesting.

I wonder how many people can appreciate the difference between the Confederate flag and the Confederate battle flag.

In the same light, who knows what the civil war was fought over?

Despite the above snarky comments, the flag should come down. It was originally flown on the SC capitol during the early 60's to remind people which was the correct side in the civil rights debate. It's a shame the south incorrectly used their heritage to try to settle the race issue. They've made their history an embarrassment to themselves.

My family is originally from Virginia and we had quite a few family members die under the Confederate flag in the Civil War. I find it very disturbing and embarassing that hate groups have decided to use the flag of the Confederate States of America as their symbol of hate. Instead of representing a proud nation that wanted their independance from the United States. It has become recognized as a symbol for hate.

Did slavery exist under the Stars and Bars? Yes it did, but slavery existed a lot longer under the Stars and Stripes of the United States Flag.

Original Flag for the CSA

Confederate Battle Flag after 1863 (I believe)

The reason for the switch was that the original looked to much like the stars and stripes of the USA and was confusing in battle. There were two differant flags in between. Basically a white flag with the stars and bars in the upper corner.

It really is a sharp looking flag. Too bad morons ruined its reputation.
