I love war stories like this. It makes me sad to know that I will be around when the last Canadian WW2 vet dies. Sadly, my grandfather has already passed, but I take every November 11th off as a holiday to drive the 45 minutes to "visit".

Great story. I love the one quote in there: "even Germans don't like to get shot".

He scored a direct hit, disabling the tank.

"I hit it in the side or the track," said Smith. "A tank is pretty hard to hit. Sometimes the round would just bounce off it. I could see it face on."

Immediately, 10 German Panzer troops jumped off and charged him.

"I killed four of them with my tommy gun. That scared them off. They were up close - about 10 feet or so."

That is some crazy stuff right there. Fear would have taken me over long before I was 10 geet away from a German Panzer!

I think I am going to watch some Band of Brothers within the next couple of days.

The true definition of a hero, is this man and any others who fought for us.
One of my biggest pet peeves is when people don't respect the veterans. People that complain how hard they have it these days. These people are blind to the world around them and cannot see how good we really have it compared to then. These young teenagers were thrust into a situation that none of us can even imagine, and did so with pride. It is because of them, that I am able to write this. They will forever have my full respect and best wishes. The true hero's.
