Default Moving to NW Calgary......advice on good gyms?

I'll be moving atleast short term to Calgary in about a month or so. I'll be living in the NW. Was just wondering if anyone had any good gyms they go to or recommend in that area? Thanks in advance.

There's one in Northland mall... Golds Gym supposedly pretty popular.
One in the SilverCity area or Empire 16 but I forgot the name of it, I go to play ice hockey there sometimes.
YMCA Crowfoot
University has a pretty good one
Some tiny ones at the swimming pool (Sir Winston Churchill Pool)

I probably missed a bunch

Where exactly in the NW? Gold's Gym down in Northland Mall is pretty good and it would be a decent option if you're moving to an area like Brentwood, Edgemont or Hawkwood.

One called Fitness NW in Silver Springs (Two communities over from Tuscany)...I've never tried it (have a membership somewhere else), but I know a lot of people who do go there, so it can't be that crappy...

Neil - for where you are, I'd probably say the YMCA in Crowfoot would be the most convenient. I currently go to Gold's Gym in Northland, and am quite satisfied with it. I've heard great things about the World Health Club in Edgemont.

You know the expression the lady doth protest too much?

How many times do I hear you say you hate the Flames? Are you telling us, or yourself....

Uhhh, no offense to the people that go there...but that gym is in a mall older than time itself. Not a very nice place to go workout, at least from the outside.

Gold's in Northland or YMCA in crowfoot is your best bet.

Nicest gym in the city is Westside rec centre, it's a bit further away....but the view from the running track on the second level is unbeatable. Go check it out.

Been a member for 2 years now.

Good: Hours are 5AM to Midnight during the week, 7AM-9PM on weekends. Good staff and personal training. All the fitness equipment seems to be in good order and there's always new stuff added. Great variety of fitness classes/facilities etc. Flat screen TVs everywhere in the cadio areas and a large amount of cardio machines. Good restaurant and bar attached where you can use your key card as a credit card. Good flexible payment options and staff that don't seem to pressure sell too much. Outdoor pool can be amazing in the summer with access to the restaurant/bar from the pool.

Bad: Can be very overcrowded during rush hour from September to April (Tough to get a parking spot, some machines are busy). Horrible clenliness in the showers. I got athlete's foot from the showers even though I wear flip flops. The health board closed the hot tubs in the change rooms numerous times, and it always seems to be under some sort of construction.

Basically how I manage there is that I usually try to go there after 7PM on weekdays and I avoid the showers like the plauge and try to shower at home if possible. I NEVER use their hot tub in the change room ( I can't stress that enough). I go there primerily because I only pay $50/month (Cheaper than Gold's gym), and they have great hours compared to the YMCA in Crowfoot. The Y's hours are terrible, especially if I have to work late.

I like that gym while I was a student there (The renos last year were great). However if you don't have reason to be on campus the parking situation is rediculous. If you want to park for free you have to walk 15 minutes both ways from McMahon. Would recommend if using the train though.
