Vimy Ridge - Lest we forget

One of the truly defining moments of this great nation must be remembered.

Agreed, that it should be remembered and everyone should take a moment to either refresh their memory or learn more about it. We're getting to a point where there are not many veterans left from WW1, and when they go so will those who had first hand accounts of what really took place during that struggle. At that point in time it's up to future generations to preserve the memory and maintain it's integrity.

I've had the honor of visiting that site, and it definitely brings a tear to your eye and brings with it strong feelings of pride.

My father-in-law's Dad fought in both great wars, I wonder if he spent any time there. His life is shrouded in mystery as he died when my father in law was 8 or 9. Amazing stuff, I have so much respect for those who fought. I was in Pearl Harbor a week ago and visited all the sites. Can't believe paradise was the site to so much destruction.

One day I will definitely visit Vimy, hopefully with my son in tow. I will tell him all about my grandfather's war stories (he was a pilot in WW2, bombed U boats) We need to teach our kids about what happened in the past so we can hopefully learn from it.

Watched some of the ceremonies on TV today. One of my goals in life is to visit Vimy Ridge or any other WW1 or WW2 battlefields. I'm always baffled and amazed by both world wars, and the stories of the soldiers and people that went through that time, not that I'd ever wish war on anyone.

I believe there is only one WW1 veteran left, and he did not even see any active duty in the trenches.

There's so few war veterans left worldwide, yet there's so many stories that many of them have passed on.

RIP to all those Canadians that died too young serving our country.

It's important that we carry our history forward, as the day will come when those who lived it are unable to. We're pretty much there with WWI, give it another twenty-five years and we'll be there for WWII, too.
