Default Kiva.org

I just finished watching an excellent Frontline World tonight (had a good expose on Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan FYI), and they profiled an organization called Kiva.

Kiva is a non-profit organization that lets you donate to micro-credit bureaus around the world and help fund small independent businesses.

For as little as $25US you can help someone around the world get a jump on a new venture to help support their family and community.

I was so blown away that I had to donate right away. I helped fun a young 23 year old man from Toga start his own barbershop.

Profile here: http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=bus...=about&id=5804

Each person requesting a micro-loan has a profile and image and brief description on why they would like a loan. It really brings a new humanistic aspect to donating to charities.

Kiva has a 100% repayment rate, and I think is a fantastic idea.

Have a look

Edit: Seeing as how the show was on Frontline, I think their site got a bit swamped. Might be a bit slow, but definitely have a look!

Wow, I just came on to post the same thread. I saw the same story.

That piece on those canadian soldiers was excellent, as well as the regular Frontline titled 'Living Old'. "A powerful and intimate look at the new realities of aging in America and the burgeoning 85+ population. Are we prepared?"

The 'News War' series has been excellent also, though I haven't seen the final episode. PBS is without a doubt my favourite television station. Love their programming.
