Default Shinny/pick-up hockey

Now that SAIT's torn apart their arena to make way for offseason renovations, I need some ice to play on in a big way. I've got to get geared up for a tournament in Banff in a few weeks.

Any rinks have regularly scheduled shinny, and if so, when?

It depends on your schedule. If you ever have weekdays off, you can play at the South Fish Creek arena. Monday to Friday during the afternoons they have open shinnys availible. That's the only one I can think of right now.

Is there a specific time or just all afternoon? Is it full equipment?

I'm pretty sure places require full equipment for adult shinny times. You'd be an idiot not to.

You'd have to phone the arena for the exact times, but whenever we rent the ice for an hour on weekdays, the board is domiated by "pick up shinny".

SAIT didn't. In fact, stick, gloves and skates and you're good to go. In two years of playing with no equipment other than this, the worst injury i've suffered is a scab on my shin.

It's only a matter of time until you have a shattered shin.

I play outdoor shinny without pads but indoor, you get more serious players I believe and wouldn't play without gear.

Perhaps its just the guys I play with then. Lot of mutual respect and low intensity going on out there.
