Default Contact lenses?

I got a test pair yesterday, and I'm having problems with them.

Anyone have any 'other' tips with putting them in, making sure they're in properly, stuff like that?

They feel kinda weird, and I'm wondering if I have them in backwards, or if it feels that way because of the pulling I do on my eyes, numerous times, which would make them sore.

I do look at them to make sure its a proper bowl and all before I put them on, but its kinda hard to tell.

Help?

Drink lots of water.

When I have issues with my contacts it is usually because I'm dehydrated. Other than that, if you have never worn them before they take a while to get used to. Your optometrist should have checked them the first time you put them in to ensure they are the correct size.

what feels weird about them? Unless you feel a definite ridge, they're probably on properly. It takes a while to get used to them though.

Make sure the lenses are moist when you put them in... helps them slide into place.

They probably feel "weird" because you aren't used to them... the difference in shape when you compare them right side up versus inside out is pretty obvious I think... make sure you know the difference!

Make sure they are nice and wet when you put them in, and then just touching them to your eye will suction cup them on pretty good. I found when I first got mine I'd blink after putting them in and they'd fall out.

Everytime mine feel scratchy they are either too old, inside out, or I have a little fuzz or something stuck to them that I couldn't see.

Good luck!

you might want to see if you can get a few different kinds. I know some people where one pair will bug the hell out of them, but another brand is fine. So if their clean and everything seems fine, you might want to try another pair. you also probably want to give it a couple days so your eyes can adjust to them. it will feel weird for a while.

Hmmm, I don't feel the ridge now, but I did take out my left one and put it back in the opposite way, and now it feels a lot better.

I guess it will take some getting used too, and my eyes are sore from all the pulling around I did at the eye doctor to get them in the first time.

Thanks guys!

The first couple of weeks I dreaded putting contacts in and out. I even went back to the optometrist because I couldn't get one out (apparently I hadn't put it in - I found it on the floor by the vanity when I got home).

It gets much, much easier.

Pulling?!

How are you putting them in?

My method:

1. Place left contact lens on index finger of left hand.
2. Using middle finger of right hand, stretch left upper eyelid up.
3. Using middle finger of left hand, stretch left lower eyelid down.
4. Place lens in.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 with opposite hands for each step with right lens.

Really? You switch hands? Odd, I use my right hand for putting them in both eyes.

Only problem I ever have had with my contacts is that they get tricky when I'm around pets (allergic). They begin to stick the the inside of my upper eyelids, and then they move around and oh the agony of bubble vision.

I always forget when I'm wearing them and rub my eyes and rub them into little folds.

There are a lot of good tips here... but here are some good tips for telling if they are inside out or not.....
  1. The Taco Test - This technique is accomplished by placing the lens in the crease of your hand towards the outside of the palm. As you close the palm of your hand you should notice the lens rolls in the shape of a taco if done correctly. If the lens is inside out you will notice that the edges will flair out and the middle of the lens will fold against itself.
  2. The Bowl - This method consists of scrutinizing the contact lens on the tip of your finger to see if it forms the shape of a bowl. If the lens is inside out you will notice that the edges flair out. Sometimes you will have to flip it and check it both ways just to be sure.
  3. The Code Word - For those of you with good near vision some of the manufacturers engrave letters or numbers on the lens to help you tell which side is right. If the letters are backwards then they are inside out.
http://www.eyetopics.com/articles/78...Soft-Lens.html

Overall... you need to give the lenses some time to adjust to your eyes, and your eyes some time to adjust to your lenses.... however, it shouldnt take more than a couple days. If these ones dont work there are many other types you can try, so dont get discouraged. Daily lenses are a good option too if you dont like using solution, but wearing them everyday makes them an expensive option (like 420 bucks for a years supply). But when the day is over you just throw the lens away and they have great comfort.

Anymore questions... PM me... I am an Optometrist.

I do that a lot and there is always the pleasant experience of having them go all the way up your eyelid until you can't even see it anymore. That makes it fun to pull out.

Somewhere, someone with laser eye surgery is laughing at all of us.

That happens to me when I accidently take a nap with them on, it's horrible. I wore my contacts too much when I was in high school and didn't keep them clean enough as a result they were dirty and scratched up the inside of my eyelids.. I can't really wear them that much any more because they get quite uncomfortable.

you can get those day and night contacts. their pretty handy and you can sleep with them on no problem. only problem I have is if sometimes when it's really dry (this is calgary I guess it's dry all the time), I will wake up and have to take them out, but 98% of the time their fine. if i lived in a humid environment would probably never have to take them out.

Focus Night and Day are good lenses, but i prefer Acuvue Oasys in Calgary... they seem to provide better protection against dryness. They are approved for 1 week of continuous wear...

For you @theCBE... i wouldnt recommend ever sleeping in your lenses. You should switch to one of hte new materials though and you will find that you can wear your lenses more hours.

Of course... go to your Optometrist and ask for the lenses, some Dr's are stuck in their ways and dont ever try the new types of lenses.

Again... Acuvue Oasys or Focus Night and Day are the ones i recommend right now.

If there is irritation with the lenses, it could also be due to the solution you are using. I would switch to either ClearCare (READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!) or Optifree Express.

This is my first day in Acuvue Oasys. A switch from old Bausch and Lomb lenses. I am a long time contact lens wearer, and these new Oasys lenses are driving me batty. I can see the edge when I look up. (Ya, it is a short trip to batty from here)

Other than that, they are comfy. Hopefully that edge business will go away after a few days.

I wear the Focus Day & Nights. Sooooo nice. You only need to change them once a month, but I've been wearing mine for like, 3 months at a time for the past few years. Only problems I ever get are when Im tired and my eyes dry out or when I do stuff that makes my eyes all red and fuzzy...

I used to work in a warehouse that was really dusty and that caused some problems too occasionally. Hurts like a son of a bitch if you get some dust under a lens.

Keep a spare bottle of solution and an extra lens case at work for youself just incase your contacts ever irritate you really bad. It sucks having to suffer through a day of irritating contacts or having to just throw them away because you can't stand having them in at the moment.

Now i shouldnt care, but dude... it is your eyes??

The Night and Day Lens worn over a month loses any benefit it has over the previous materials... as the lens gets older the amount of oxygen that flows through it also goes down. Essentially you are wearing old style lenses overnight for the last few months. This also increases your chance of infection. Keep it up and you will have so many issues health wise that you wont be able to wear lenses in the future...

want your eyeball to look like this????
