Default Anyone tried this? Mentos eruption
Hey guys. I stumbled across a video of some guy putting mentos into a bottle of diet coke. Wow that is quite the reaction. Found a wikipedia article on it.

Has anyone here tried this. I was thinking about taking the kids to the park this weekend to give them (me) some juvenile entertainment.

They did it on Mythbusters. They tried to isolate the ingredient that causes the eruption; then had a contest to see who could get the biggest eruption.

Both Coke and Diet Coke work; but Diet Coke is less sticky to clean up.

I've tried it on a small scale with a 600ml bottle of Pepsi, and it worked pertty well (I was camping so resources were hard to come by to make it happen).

Pretty funny thing to see though.

check out youtube for some ideas on how to make thisd work the best. I have done it, and it's friggin hilarious.

Our kids did it last summer ... out in the middle of a ball field. The Coke must have shot at least 10 feet in the air, probably closer to 15 feet. What a hoot. The kids coudn't get out of the way fast enough. DON'T DO IT INDOORS!!

We did it a couple of times in our back alley last year. Once it almost went up to the power lines. Near 20 foot?

There are a number of youtube videos surrounding this. A number of them even coreograph mutilple bottles into a firworkesque display.

They did this last summer on Letterman. They did a 122 bottles.

Pretty much. A friend of mine mentioned something about mentos being a catalyst when combined with Diet Coke a while ago, but he didnt seem to be serious.

Guess I havent been keeping up on my chemistry experiments.


Pretty funny stuff nonetheless. Apparently it works even better if you stick the mentos in the freezer first.
