xBox support still sucks...
This weekend I went out and bought a new xBox, and along with it, decided to get xBox Live so I can play w/ some buddies online. I set up my account online when I purchased xBox live (gold), but whenever I try and sign in, it says 'you cannot be connected at this time', or something to that effect.
So I phone up the support line yesterday, and ask what the problem may be. I get a response saying that they're in the process of server upgrades, service is a little wonky. Fair enough - I can wait until the morning before trying it out.
I try again this morning - same message. I call xBox support again, and tell the guy my problem...his response is that I've entered my information wrong each time, and that I can try again in 3-4 hours.
My response : umm, no I haven't - even if I entered it wrong once, I'd probably get it right in one of the other 3-4 tries I've done.
Him: Yea, you probably entered it in wrong each time, and you've been locked out...try again later.
This is really starting to piss me off. Anyone else have similar troubles & know how to fix it (other than trying again in a little while)??

That's wierd then.
You'd have to be a ###### to not be able to put in the subscription. Are you sure your information matches your CC billing?
I screw that up sometimes, My CC billing address is a PO Box but I get caught putting in my home address.
Honestly, that's pretty much the only reason I can think of as well.

the CC transaction went through. One of my friends was able to add me as a friend on there as well, so I know my account information is right. I just can't connect via my xBox for whatever reason (all the network tests turned up ok too)

Ahhh.. so more of a technical problem? Can you access the Marketplace? Can your friends see you online, and/or can you see your friends as online?
You may need to open these ports on your router
The following ports must be available for Xbox Live to operate correctly:
•UDP 88
•UDP 3074
•TCP 3074

I can't get past entering my gamertag id/e-mail/password...so to answer re: marketplace, seeing people online...no.
Dumb technical question - how does one check to see if those ports are open, and then subsequently open them (should they be closed)?
ps - thanks for helping

I was gonna give this its own thread, but whatever.
XBOX 360 Elite:
Features:
- black color scheme (nice)
- Increased 120 gig HD
- HDMI output (as opposed to the Component on the original 360)

That thing is such a waste of money... Not even a HD-DVD drive inside.

It all depends on what kind of router you have. A Google search should help you there.
For the first part... if you can't add a gamertag sucessfully how have your buddies been able to add you? Doesn't make sense.

I think you can run a test sequence in Xbox Live to ping your net connection from the console. That oughta give you an idea as to if it's a router problem or if it's a Microsoft related problem.
Does the light come on on your router when you turn on the Xbox? Could also be a faulty LAN cable or something. Or maybe try another connection slot on the router.

yea i have to agree...you'd think MS would jump behind HD DVD in the same way sony has teamed up (or did they invent?) blu ray. There's still an external drive for HD DVD I believe...

and they would need to recolour the hd-dvd to be black.
actually, the chipset is smaller and should run cooler...thus meaning less fan use and therefore quieter for those that need it quiet!
i suspect there may also be some more "non mod" stuff in there too.

I've been able to look at it from xbox.com on my computer - my profile's all set up, but can't do anything from my xbox

Don't ever move your 360 while running with a game in it or it will scratch the disk

Oh yeah, that was big news when the 360 first launched. If you had a disk inside and the machine was tilted in any direction it would literally render your disk obsolete lol. They've had to have fixed that problem now I'd hope.

I know someone who did that. The 360 made a terrible grinding noise and ruined his Gears of War.

Although if any video game is worth buying twice, that's the one.
