Absolutly loved the first one. Easy to see why it was the game of the year. And now this one is supposed to be better, hard to believe that but I am definatly going to see.
The trailers are amazing as well. I cannot wait.
There are more great videos at http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/811/811719/vids_1.html
With this and 300 coming out I cannot wait.

FYI, this actually releases tomorrow now. $50 at Future Shop (one day only). $60 regular price.
Again, if you haven't played the first God of War, get it, play it. And pick this one up too.

Guys in the office picked it up from EB Games today. I wish I had a PS2 or PS3 to play it on, but I got enough gaming machines.

Just thought I would add a personal review of this game.... I can cut it down to two characters and three letters.
Wow.
This platform game has a balanced mix of fighting and puzzle solving. The puzzles are pretty straight forward (although sometimes a test of your patience for finding the right solution) while the fighting does allow you to do so in many ways. Mini bosses litter the game and each has weaknesses in how you attack (or sometimes more importantly, parry) in order to beat them. The gameplay is visually stunning, while the cut scenes and audio just push this game over the top. This game pushed the PS2 to its limits. Visually it put many XBOX360 games to shame.
HOW you kill enemies is also important. Take brutal kills wherever possible, not only for the visuals, but for the added powerups you get.
Blood, guts and boobies are the norm in this game. Definitely a very violent game, but heck, if I can live through Pong, I can handle this one.
With the only small beef of opening "doors", this game is virtually flawless. The reviewers are right on this one. Last time I looked, 35 of 37 reviewers gave this game a 90 or more (out of a 100) at metacritic.
From a storyline perspective, you could see some Star Wars and Star Trek influences. Won't say what, but if you play, you will pick them up.
And this game has NO good guys. Kratos is a serious bad @$$ !!
Best of all? The ending, which I will not spoil, certainly leads me to believe that Kratos will be back in full force once again in God of War III. And by that time, it will be on a PS3. I can only hope that this development team stays together and gives us another classic in this series.
Two thumbs up, and a big toe from me. 96/100 is my score. Slight deductions for the door opening thingy and for a couple spots where I damn near threw my controller through my big screen as the fights were so tough (two or three spots).
Edit.. looking at Future Shops best sellers, this is the hottest game out right now. Good to see. For all those pining for a Wii, I am sorry, your best bang for the buck right now is a PS2, with a HUGE library of games, many of which are now in that $20 range. I have a dozen XBOX 360 games, many which are good, but $ for $, PS2 has the best bang for the buck for anyone wanting a newer system. PS3 will take time to roll out and the Wii is, well, anew controller that jeopardizes big screens! (No hope in hell I am going to let anyone "swing" that thing at my 61" Toshiba...)

Heh.. a guy at work *says* he'll lend me his PS3. Or at least we can trade consoles (for my 360) for a while. I'm waiting for a few more good games to come out for the 360. EDIT: PS3 I mean.
He comes in to work some mornings and just sits in silence and we know he's trying to form the words to tell us how good God of War II is.

Haha, I am watching all the cut scenes strung together (a bonus feature once you have beaten the game). It is playing like a movie. Quite cool addition.
Heck Photon, a PS2 and this game is less than $200, GST inc. What is stopping you?

You already beat it? How long did that take?
I have a lot of things I've been wanting to do, but this is going to have to sneak in somehow.
It's amazing how games on the PS2 are still getting better and better.

Yep, bought it on the 15th, finished it yesterday. Not the fastest by any means, but I hold up my end in middle aged gamers that can hold their own!
Edit... and once again, I stress... if this game interests you, great, but GET THE FIRST ONE first. Not only is it also a great game (and cheap now) but it also gets you used to the controls, gameplay and most importantly, storyline.

My wife would likely have something to say if I tried something like that

Wow.. now God Of War was a great game, it was in my top 5, and this sequel just blew it out of the water.
Holy crapoli I can't believe how much fun this game is.

It is a Sony title - it'll never be on a MS machine.
