Default Buzz Hargrove agrees with Conservatives? Who'da thunk it?

And it's not global warming he's referring to. It's a Canada and Ontario without an auto industry he's worried about. If Al Gore and David Suzuki get their way, Buzz said, this very well could be the result. "The rhetoric is worrisome," he said. "We have got everything working against us right now."

Unrealistic environmental goals, unfair trade deals and out of control inflation don't add up to good times for automakers --not to mention related industries.

But the Tories, said Buzz, get that. And their plan is a proper response.
From a traditional NDP / Liberal supporter, this is quite interesting. Obviously he's looking out for the best results for his union, but siding with the Conservatives? Wow.

Then some comments on Gore and Suzuki:

Quote:
"I think John Baird is right on the money," said Hargrove. "Al Gore was vice-president for eight years and in the senate before that where they voted against (environmental reforms). So I don't know where he gets his credentials to come in here and lecture."

As for Suzuki ambushing Baird, that was an ugly show.

It was even uglier and nastier than when he couldn't take the heat on John Oakley's radio show on AM 640 a couple of months back and stormed out of the studio when challenged.

Oh god Buzz Hargrove supporting the Conservatives is like the NRA announcing its backing of the Liberals.

Ugh

For most of the time that Gore was VP, the Republicans controlled both the House and Senate. What did he expect Gore to be able to do? That would be like criticizing the Conservatives for not doing more for the environment when the Liberals controlled Parliament.

As for Gore's senate record, did he personally vote against any environmental reforms? According to this brief biography, Gore had the reputation of being a pro-environment lawmaker throughout his terms as senator and VP. His recent celebrity as the champion of the climate change issue is hardly a new development for him.

In the Senate (1985–93), Gore emerged as a defender of environmental causes

[...]

As vice president, Gore formulated policy for reducing the cost and size of the federal government and was an advocate for the Internet and for environmental protection.

[...]

While a Representative, Gore co-sponsored hearings on toxic waste in 1978-79, and hearings on global warming in the 1980s.

[...]

In the late 1990s, Gore strongly pushed for the passage of the Kyoto Treaty, which called for reduction in greenhouse gas emissions [49] [50]. However, many of these proposals were not enacted by Congress...
