Where do you rent movies?
I have a small independant place right down the street, Birddog Video. I hit them up as much as I can but it can be quite annoying to bring the video back the next day. Especially when the DVD has a commentary that you want to check out.
So much easier to walk down to the stupid Blockbuster and keep the movies for a whole week. Last week I rented 3 movies including the Departed. Ended up keeping them for over 10 days and only got charged $5.95 for late fees on all 3, not bad.
As for the Bell PPVs, seems like they put the most visually appealing movies on the SD channels. I'll only pay for the HD movies.
WHat do you guys do for movies?

I use Rogers Video Direct. Decent selection and service, no late fees, and the list is helpful to track movies you want to see. It's not perfect, but I'm happy with the service.

The Library. I work for a library system and as a result get a free library card. I don't have to pay to rent my movies.

Video and Sound on Centre street and 16th avenue. They have all the anime and foreign movies I want and I also get all my new english dvd releases from there. If you buy their coupons it only works out to $1.50/dvd a day!

Blockbuster, the no late fees thing is great since we always end up keeping them longer as our plans change, but I'm too addicted to instant gratification to wait for zip.ca or other mail in DVD places.

I had a membership with canflix.ca they work out of Calgary so you get the movies shipped out to you within 2 days and it's cheap but I hate their selection, they seem to have 1 of each movie. I'm now with Zip.ca and they take about 4 days to get 3 movies out to you and 4 days back the other way, anyways I'm cancelling as it's not worth it. Feel free to show me how to download movies off the net.

I'm all about zip.ca. Great service. If I do venture out to the video store world its to either Casablanca on 4th, or Blockbuster (because of no late fees - which I'm very bad for).
Birddog those is a great video store and have a fantastic doc section.

Rogers. Just as good a selection as Blockbuster, better "no late fees" policy.
I am currently trying Zip.ca, but am thoroughly unhappy. I don't like not getting the exact movies I want, and the delivery time is horrible for me, despite all the movies being shipped from Calgary. Their Zip Refill is nice, but I don't qualify yet, and I'm not remaining a member long enough to reap the benefits. The problem I see, is that in order to get enough DVDs sent out, I have to add filler movies to my Ziplist that I don't really want to see.

I also found problems with Zip.ca. Their service was very fast at first and especially during the free trial period, but it gradually slowed down and there was a 3-4 day shipping wait on most things.
I'm using canflix.ca now and it seems to be better. Not as big of a selection, but they've been quick to get stuff out. I've only been a member for a month, so it remains to be seen if it will last, but so far, so good.

It's definitely an adjustment getting used to Zip/Rogers. I had Inside Man at the top of my list for a long time, and it finally arrived late last month - but the disc had a gigantic crack in it. I reported this online and returned right away, the replacement arrived within 2 days IIRC.
The thing I like about it is that in the past I lost track of movies I wanted to see but never got around to for various reasons. Now as soon as either my wife or I find a movie interesting, it goes on the list.
I can't imagine renting a TV series from them, though, since the discs always arrive out of order.

Blockbuster, closest to my house, return them whenever I want, I had the Prestige just sitting there collecting dust for 2 weeks. I know I'm adding to the problem of there never being anything good to rent on a friday or saturday night, but hell, they have guaranteed rentals, so those will be free next time. Blockbuster all the way and this is coming from a guy who got fired from there.

I'm boycotting Bloackbuster due to a gaming related matter. Haven't set foot in one of their stores in well over a year.

I thought a lot more people would be doing the PPV thing, no running to the store to grab the movie and no going back for a 2nd trip to return it. Bell charges $4.99 for a lot of their movies, slightly cheaper than anyone else.

I tend to buy the DVDs I am going to watch over and over again (Bond, etc) and rent via Shaw PPV or VOD. I have not rented a DVD in years. I do rent games from time to time (like once a year) at VHQ (they are in the neighboorhood.

VHQ. I buy their calendar at the beginning of the year, then I get a rent one get one for every month. Helps out with the game rentals. It costs $9 to rent a game for the Wii.
