Default Remember this?

On the theme of last night's Stardust implosion, it for some reason brought back memories of Calgary's biggest implosion event:

Not in English, but great camera angles.

What year was that? I remember watching on TV and then opening the door and hearing the big boom 30 seconds later or whatever it was.

October 4, 1998 - I lived in Southwood at the time and my house shook about 30 seconds after the blast on TV - weird!!

I think Mark McGwire hit his 70th homerun the night before if I remember correctly!!

Yeah I heard the boom quite a bit later too. Wild stuff.

Also I was born there.

I was born there also.

The shockwave can only travel a maximum of 770mph, which is the speed of sound at sea level i believe.

So thats only 13 miles per minute, so around 6 or 7 miles away from the balst it would take 30 seconds to reach us.

Yeah, not sure why it has that title... I thought it was only known as Calgary General Hospital.

I haven't been in Calgary awhile, have they started building anything in Bridgeland on that site yet?
