Who are the best Guitarists in the world?
Just saw a commericlal for for ET Canada with Jeff Healy and started thinking about the best guitarists in thw world.
Who do you guys think would rank?
Personally I think Jeff is right up there, Oscar Lopez is an amazing 6 string guitar player that I think is amazing, Clapton is of course a good choice IMO. Jimmy Page is also on my list.

Eric Clapton is still my favorite. I do like Kenny Wayne Shepherd though. Other guys I would consider, Mark Knopfler, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai and Jonny Lang.

Jimmy Page is my personal favorite. The Yardbirds have had quite the history with guitarists having Beck, Clapton and Page as their guitarists throughout the 60's.
There is so much music out there that I am sure I haven't heard the "best" guitarist in the world, if you can even consider one to be the best. There is probably someone sitting in their basement playing guitar with no fame who could wipe the floor with many of these other popular guitarists...we just don't know them yet........Like me!... okay maybe not..

Why do turdburglars like justing timberlake get to live and Stevie Ray Vaughan gets taken in a helicopter crash. There's no justice!
I like Knopfler, Healey, Robbie Robbertson, Slash, Clapton, The Edge.

Personally I like Page all time. Just stylistically, his stuff works for me. I don't know, there are people who are obviously great guitarists but if the songs aren't good, then what's the point? I think the songwriting is more important than "shredding". Guys like Jo Satriani or whatever have never done anything for me. I'd take Jack White or Cobain over him any day. Even Clapton..great guitarist..but his music does very little for me.
A suprisingly good guitarist is John Mayer..again, not a fan of his music, but I acknowledge he has mad skills.

Hands down.
SRV way up there too.
Brad Paisley is probably one of the best country guitarists out there.

Solid thread topic.
I like the answers so far...I'll add Santana and second the John Mayer - with one difference, I love Mayers music. His new album is out of this world. Just high quality music.
Oh and the guitarist from U2 can hold his own as well IMO.
As far as least talented but famous nonetheless...Oasis is the first to come to mind.

If you haven't picked it up yet, I highly recommend picking up Eric Claptons Crossroads Festival on DVD. BB King, Buddy Guy, Clapton, John Mayer, Jonny Lang, ZZ Top, Joe Walsh and Steve Vai. Good stuff.

Such a subjective thing. Pretty much anybody listed in a thread like this is going to be a great guitarist. Some of my favourites though are:
Zakk Wylde
Ty Tabor (King's X)
John Petrucci (Dream Theater...for pure technical noodling)

I can't beleive only one person has mentioned Tom Morello. That guy can make a guitar sound like anything he wants.

The only problem is he picks the same two sounds over and over again...
