Mail is the best program I've encountered, but it's only for Macs. Sounds like you run Windows. I don't blame you for wanting to try something else though ... Outlook Express is probably the worst e-mail program I've ever used. Early programs like Eudora were certainly more bare-bone, but OE gave me more grief with crashes, corrupted files and archives, etc., than any other e-mail program ever has.

Try Thunderbird if you like Firefox. They also have a calendar app called Sunbird.

I have gmail, but I'm still stuck on Hotmail.
I'm too lazy to switch all my MSN contacts.

I tried Thunderbird just before formatting my computer last fall and decided to stick with it.

The combo of gmail, google calender, and google apps(word/spreadsheets) that can be accessed anywhere you have a connection is $$$

Hotmail and SFU webmail.. the latter being really a pain in the neck cause sometimes i get e-mails a day or two after they are sent, and they always seem to be from my profs for some reason.

Pegasus Mail. Best functioning, secure, plain mail client I've ever encountered. http://www.pmail.com
Most of the features that you now see in M$ Outlook etc were copied from Pegasus Mail.

I use hotmail because I'm too lazy to change to Gmail. I also have Outlook Express because some sites won't recognise hotmail.

Used Thunderbird forever to connect to my shared web hosting / IMAP server. When I moved to a VPS, I had plans to setup an MX/SMTP/IMAP server. I used Gmail temporarily...and have stuck with it. Much better than managing a whole email server...for one user.
At work I use Thunderbird.

Oh my, that takes me back a few years. Now someone needs to mention PINE and Eudora and this thread is set.
I use gMail. If I were to use a client, it would be Thunderbird, but so far Google's interface serves all my purposes and I no longer have to worry about backing up my email archives.

I have an account with Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo. But I pretty much only use my Hotmail simply because that's the e-mail all my friends and various contacts know and I'm too much of a lazy ass to get everything switched over to my Gmail (which is what I would prefer to use).
Gmail is far and away the best e-mail service provider out there. Most space, most saftey and more cool little features then you probably even want, but they're pretty sweet to have anyways.

When it comes to 'online' mail, Gmail is the way to go. Hotmail and (and sometimes Google) appear on too many RBLs (blacklists).
