Default Calgary recycling.

I've been trying to use the internet to find a list of what you can recycle and where you take specific items to, but am not having much luck. I'm aware of the fact there are two different places you can return stuff. Green bins where I take paper, glass, milk cartons, carboard. Then you have the places where you can return for refund.

I have a couple things here though, that I'm not sure where to take. I buy the Minute Maid orange juice that comes in containers that are shaped like a milk container. Now I'm assuming it's not okay to put them in with the milk cartons but where else would you take them? Are they are considered a 'return for refund' item or carboard or what? Also, I buy Delmonte and Dole fruit that comes in the small plastic container. Is there a specific place for those also, because at the Green Bins I don't see one for plastic. Or are those 'return or refund'?

The orange juice containers shaped like milk containers can be taken to any bottle depot - I take mine there all the time.

The fruit containers might be harder. The green bins don't take plastics. There is a recylcling depot near Glenmore & Crowchild (I don't know the address) that takes plastics; there might be more.

AP Recycling in the old Curry Barracks will take plastics 1-7, as well as all of the other stuff - newspaper, mags, milk, metal, glass, milk jugs, plastic bags - you take to the green boxes. As an added bonus, they are a bottle depot, to boot.

You pay a deposit on juice containers, so you can return them to a bottle depot for a refund (same with tetra pak juice boxes).

Do you have to sort the plastics before hand? or can all plastics that are #1 to #7 be put in the same bin?

Yes.

IIRC, ones go in one bin, twos go in another and three-seven go in yet another.

Ok, just wondering. That location would be closer for me, but I take my plastics to Turner Valley, all of #1 thru #7 go in one bin there, so no more sorting for me. Okotoks has plastic recycling too, but again, has to be sorted.

Thanks for the info and all the responses guys.

I'm trying to do my part. Maybe I'll buy a hybrid next.
