Interesting sidebar note, McCain's son Jimmy joined the Marines last year and is probably due for deployment to Anbar Province in Iraq this summer.

I honestly cannot see McCain winning vs an much younger Obama.
Jules can if he could win NY. NY is why Jules should win the Republican nomination.
With McCain NY is not even a battleground. With Jules it is. Arizona isnt worth enough to overlook his weaknesses (age and look mostly).

Honestly, I doubt McCain can win the primary right now. His attempts to appeal to the more conservative southern base have made him look like a political chameleon of the worst order. He's in tough against Giuliani for the moderates, and I have to think that real conservatives will eventually back Brownback or some other favourite son over McCain or Romney, both of whom are obviously pandering.
Not to mention that McCain's views on Iraq are turning into a liability on both sides of the aisle. McCain's in trouble: mark my words.

I dont know, much like North of the 49, before you can win the election you first have to get past the primary(s). Much like Harper saying he will bring in a gay marriage vote and then doesnt force his MP's to vote one. Classic pandering to base but knowing that doing what the base wants and what will win you (or could lose you) an election is much much much different on both sides of the border.
Moderate republicans (I would consider myself one if I was Republican) dont vote in primaries (I didnt vote in the Alliance votes for leader, nor the Alberta PC party - I wish I had cause Stelmach, Ed the useless tit Stelmach won, what a joke). Hardcore bible thumpers do. And Bible thumpers will not vote for Jules based on his divorces and extra - marital stuff.
He is hands down the best Republican candidate but it will be harder for him to win the primary than to win the Election.

Technically speaking, not really.
But I would be thrilled if Obama and McCain end up running against each other.
I support candidates on both sides....lesser of two evils one might say.

Couldn't agree more.
If the conservative base migrates to Brownback we're in trouble. I'll vote for Clinton over him, and that's saying something.
I'm pinning my hopes on Giuliani at this point.

If Republicans are smart, they'll nominate Giuliani. Red states will vote for him anyway, even if they don't like his social views (or his history of being groped by Donald Trump while dressed as a woman--but that's another story). On the other hand, he'll be their most competitive candidate in blue states, and will only need a few of them to win it all. He's the smart pick.

McCain is a good guy. Both smart, intelligent, rational, and a decent republican with what many would call liberal views. (He was a Vietnam P.O.W., initiated the anti-torture legislation).
He will always be a star politician but sadly, never President. He doesn't have the luck.

I would mind McCain either. But if Giuliani wins, I wouldn't have a problem.
