East Coast Top 104
With the amount of music talk that goes on here I thought it would be interesting to get a west coast perspective on this list. A local radio station here in Halifax did an East Coast Top 104 "rock" songs. They took a very liberal definition of rock, from soft rock, to the song is 'rocking' even if it is not a Rock & Roll song. Then they put selections up on the web for people to vote (while I like the idea, voting skews to newer stuff, and people's more current favourites, as opposed to the actual Top 104)
The only real criteria was that the songs had to be from the era of the radio station (so basically 30 years or so).
Here's a link to the list as well as the rationelle of the songs on the ballot:

Holy cow. They like an artist and they pick every one of their songs for the list out East, or what? 10% of that list is April Wine! Would April Wine even be on the list anywhere else? Well, maybe, but certainly not 11 songs....

I think this is actually a Maritimes only list. Haywire sure is on this list an awful lot for a small, short-lived, 80s rock/pop Canadian outfit. Egad. But thanks to CRTC Canadian Content requirment, I hear them on Jack FM all the time. This is a pretty wierd list overall. It's like dominated by April Wine. The other surprise is the amount of songs from INXS's Switch Album. I guess everybody over there loves J.D. Fortune as he was raised in Nova Scotia. Same with Sloan as a N.S. band.
This whole list suddenly makes sense now. I don't think the original poster really explained that so that's why we are all so confused. This is basically "Homerific Maritimes Canada Top 104". This list totally makes no sense to the majority of people. None of that clicked for me until I noticed Haywire. I didn't even know Sloan and April Wine had Maritimes roots.
I think all of us see this title and think East Coast Top 104 as in U.S. East Coast, etc.
---
I hope to dear god that if such a list came out for Alberta that Nickelback wouldn't dominate the list just because they are from here and not judged on the merits of their music.

As a big Sloan fan, how can they not come in higher than 14? And "The Other Man" is their best song? Ridiculous. "Underwhelmed" has to be higher... like #1.
Also deplorable: no Eric's Trip! Only one Super Friendz song, and it's last on the list! Two Thrush Hermit songs, way down near the bottom!
Brutality.
Oh and I don't like April Wine after they stole the family camcorder from my brother whilst he was drunk at the HHOF for New Year's 2000.

You are right...its for the Maritimes.
The station doing this would be the equivalent of CJAY 92 in Calgary.

I thought it was an international list when I saw the Momas and Papas but remembered that recently departed great, Denny Doherty was a local boy and sung lead on Monday, Monday and California Dreamin'.

you stole my post almost word for word
I like Matt Mays, and Joel Plaskett and even the Trews I don't mind, but Sloan has such an impressive catalogue of both album tracks and singles, I know that they are all over the list...but not until 14? underwhelmed is a near perfect single, in my mind
there isn't much Thrush Hermit, but alot of Plaskett
I'm surprised so little superfriendz/flashing lights...and no Eric's trip? that's a bummer
