Arthroscopic Wait Times in Calgary
Anyone know off hand what the wait times are at right now, or where I can find out what they are? I had a mishap last weekend, and it looks like I might need to get scoped.
I'm wondering because I have a surf vcation planned for March 1, and if the wait times are astronomic I'll go in right away. If they're quick I'll wait until afterwards, and try to hold my knee together with duct tape in the ocean.

March 1st? I've had some major knee sprains and don't feel comfortable for AT LEAST a month... and this is without any real damage or surgery...
I guess you can brace the hell out of it, but on a knee intensive activity such as surfing? Yikes.

Not sure if it's the same type of thing or not, but when I needed an MRI it was a 6 month wait for the hospital, or a 2 week wait here: http://www.canadadiagnostics.ca/
Oh, and the later wanted $900 to do it. At that point we didn't have private coverage on my compnay's health plan, but now we do.

They aren't the same thing at all, but that's good to know. It only took me about 8 weeks to get one through the hospital. They're using the old Children's equipment for outpatients now, so it will likely be faster now. 900 bucks seems like a lot to fork out for something that should/is covered under our plans....I guess it's important how serious a thing you are wanting MRI'd though.....and how much it's affecting you life, I guess.

This is tear# 4 on my MCL, so I've got the timelines down to a science. Within 2 weeks I can use it almost normally, but the strength is almost non existant. Lots of painkillers and physio help as well.
Thanks boobaloo! 8 weeks it is (on average) according to that link.

NP, it is the government site, so I think it's reasonably accurate....you've got a lot of pain tolerance if you can do that...I know I couldn't, but good on ya. Just be careful that you don't wreck it more than it already is, or you could be looking at a more long-term problem.

The worst part about it is the muscles that get overworked because I'm walking funny....those are the most painful ones to fix (I think I pulled my hamstring yesterday). Nothing like having a hot physiotherapist make you cry like a girl when she gives you the sports massage.
Cool website though. That must be all of Alberta? I wonder if Calgary is in line with that?
