Default Shocking Death of Mary Jane

In the third edition of a four part series titled "Spider-Man:Reign" our favorite web-slinger deals with the death of his dear wife, Mary Jane. This story is set about 35 years in the future and follows an old Spider-Man coming out of retirement with a little less spunk but a darker attitude. Kinda like the Batman story arc in the Dark Knight Series.

For those that might be following the story, I won't reveal any spoilers directly. The answers to MJ's death can be found here: http://www.comixexperience.com/savbl...h-of-mary.html

I've wanted to get into some of these graphic novels but just don't knwo where to start. I've heard some of these darker storylines are good, but where do you begin? Can I just start reading Spider-Man: Reign without needing the earlier stories or ruining the earlier stories.

I think Reign is an independent story arc. It's set in the future in a kind of "what if" sorta sense. I enjoy the darker stuff, too, but you can't expect a happy ending with this one.
