Living in the area and taking regular walks down that way, that sign is there fairly regularly (at the descent to the river at the West end of the Weselhead) most likely for the city/province to cover their ass.
That said, I am sure its fairly quiet there evenings/afternoons these days, so more likely that if one was around, it would be a day like today, especially as the air gets a bit colder.
My runs head the other way towards the rowing club when I get to that intersection. Hills are for suckers!

I'd have taken a picture . . . . . like the bear cub in my apple tree below last week at 1:30 in the morning. The mom and two cubs came calling five nights in a row.
Seriously, you should be going the other way if a bear is around. I took the picture with one foot out my front door . . . and one foot inside.

Let this be a listen to you. Go running with a partner.
You needn't out run the bear, just your running mate! If you give them a swift kick to the knee it will only help stave off a bear attack.

Aren't black bears more dangerous when on a trail? At least I think that's what everyone told me when in Ontario.

Ditto. I could take, I dunno....probably like 30 Bears if it was in an Octagon or something, or a......
......Thunderdome?
All kidding aside, I'm a fairly reckless individual and I pay little heed to signage of any variety. I'd have been thoroughly impressed if I'd even noticed that sign.....

I rode my bike around the Reservoir yesterday. That sign has been up for several months. I pull my youngest boy in my Burley, and therefore I can't operate at warp speed, so I do take good care when I'm in that neck of the woods. I certainly don't listen to my headphones, but I think that's just good practice when cycling in general.
I have seen bear scat on the paths on many, many occasions over the years.
Nice shot, Cowperson!!

Wow! Nice picture Cow!!
That's pretty neat to have right outside your house!
I did a lot of running/cycling there up until mid august and never saw that sign so it was new to me.
I was doing 16k so I was pretty close to having to head back that way if I had done the full circle so instead I headed off towards Sandy Beach.
I'm going to have to start doing longer runs so eventually I'll just be lapping the reservoir which I think it 18 - 19 so I'll have to pass the bear area at some point

I'd do the only logical thing possible, breed with the bears, gain their trust, marry them, and then find out afterwards 10 years down the road when we have three kids and a place in Red Deer that they are infact Oiler fans, and this has all been a sick joke!! AHHHHHHHHHh

The look of longing in that bear's eyes as he reaches for the fruit is hilarious.
As for the best bear... there are basically two schools of thought.
