Bill O'Reilly and Stephen Colbert - On the same TV screen.
This could quite possibly end up being the funniest Half-Hour ever on TV.
Quote:
Bill O'Reilly, Stephen Colbert to meet next week
Updated Tue. Jan. 9 2007 1:38 PM ET
Associated Press
NEW YORK -- It may feel like looking into the mirror for Bill O'Reilly and Stephen Colbert next week.
The Fox News Channel host and Colbert, who has essentially based his comic character every evening on Comedy Central on him, will trade appearances on each other's programs Jan. 18.
"I'm really looking forward to speaking to a man who owes his entire career to me," O'Reilly said.
On "The Colbert Report," Colbert portrays a self-involved talk-show host who has tried to bring "truthiness" to the world. His character owes an obvious debt to O'Reilly, who holds court in the "no-spin zone" each evening.
On "The O'Reilly Factor," O'Reilly portrays a ... um, he hosts the top-rated program in cable news.
"I look forward to the evening," Colbert said. "It is an honor to speak face-to-face with a broadcasting legend, and I feel the same way about Mr. O'Reilly."

Will Colbert play it cool? Or take the opportunity run this idiot into the ground? I doubt it, but I would sure love to see it.

He wasn't afraid to call out GWB at the Whitehouse Press Dinner. This should be interesting. I wonder which one tapes first?

Ha ha no doubt. That was a tough room and he managed pretty well. I think he can handle old Bill. This won't be a "Jon Stewart on Crossfire" kind of thing though. He probably won't break character.
This is next Thursday so we should try to bump this thread next week or I know I'll forget and have to watch it all on that crappy youtube screen.

as much as i think that colbert and stewart are limited-hangout stooges that continue to sell the 'oops we are so stupid!' argument and heap praise and adulation on vampires like gary hart and henry kissinger, i think that the odd VERY funny joke creeps through.
that colbert roast with the 'gannon' button was pure gold, and it snuck by (i would guess) many casual viewers without realizing that during the press club roast they managed to take a jab at the most notorious white house male escort of this administration, jeff gannon - a guy that had been there hundreds of times.
it should be pretty good, i tend to think that colbert is kind of a parody of pundits like o'reilly and hannity.

Thinking that Colbert is meant to be a parody of pundits like O'Reilly and Hannity, is kinda like thinking that they sky is blue and that water is wet.

I think Colbert won't be "in character" on the O'Reilly Factor, but will be so on his own show. Should be entertaining!

well, isn't the sky blue and isn't water wet?
lately calgarypuck seems to be a place not to take too firm a stand, if someone disagrees with you that means that you think they're lying through their teeth and degrading their career experience...

You guys are in agreeance about the Colbert-O'Reilly comparision. He is just saying that pointing out that Colbert is a character based on O'Reilly is very obivious.
Anyways, this will be a must watch for me. Really Colbert will just have to keep character and it will rip into Bill whether or not he sees the irony.

Should be awesome. Colbert is probably the funniest guy on TV right now.

Okay, except there is no space for debating. It's a pretty well known fact that that is exactly what Colbert is doing, and that is what makes the fact that they are meeting interesting. But if you feel the need to point out the obvious as though it's your own observation, then I appologize.
This all being said I can't wait to see this. Colbert is hilarious, and to see him face to face with his inspiration/nemesis, should make for some good tv.

I was reading Stuff magazine last night and they were asking celebraties what music they were listening to when they lost thier virginity. Colbert's quote was
"Is screaming my own name considered music"
Funny funny guy

I don't know about Colbert but Steward's sarcasm seems to depend on which way the wind is blowing. Funny though.

Well that was kind of crappy. I didn't see the O'Reilly Factor but the Colbert Report was pretty lame. The only laugh I got out of it was when he showed Bill's book and it had a big 30% off sticker on the cover over his face. The rest of it was just blabbing back and forth about nothing and then a terrible photoshop gag.

Very underwhelming. The hype was much bigger than the delivery.
The book with the 30% off sticker was the funniest amongst both shows.
On the Factor show, they analyzed why Colbert is so popular. For the
few minutes of that I caught, it was crap. "They target the 18-25
crowd, and that's who they get." blah blah blah They overanalyzed
the humour in it.
Realistically? I think O'Reilly doesn't really care for Colbert, and is somewhat
insulted by it. He's just playing along, after all, it drops $$$ into his
bank account. Maybe he was hoping for a Jon Stewart type of
"Stop it!" moment, but Colbert wasn't going to let him have it?

O'Reilly was a good sport for the most part on Colbert. Colbert did get in one low blow about "sexual predators" - I'm not sure Bill picked up on it.

I was a little dissapointed at the whole segment, as it just came across as two guys boxing around the edge and not wanting to say something that would put them at a disadvantage.
In other words, I can't believe I stayed up to one to watch that.
