Default Satellite Guys...help me

Here's the situation.
A friend of mine has purchased a bi-level duplex. He is going to live on one side, I am going to live on the other. There is an ExpressVu Dish set up on the house. Our plan is to feed both places off of one dish. My question is how many TV's/Receivers can we use on one dish? I know there are splitters and such you can buy that make it possible to run multiple units, but what is the max?
Thanks

What does Bell allow- 6

What is easy to hook up- 4

And lose the word "splitter." In the satellite world there is no such thing. The word you want is "switch." To the casual observer, they look similar, but work in very different ways. And the best way to start understanding how to hook it up is to not view it as a "splitter."

You are right and wrong. Using the hardware given by buying 2 6100 receiver packages you would be right. (pretend my "dual tuner" receiver in this pic is actually two 6100's.)

However my suggestion would include using an SW44 switch, so assuming one of your receivers would be a 9200 (which is the dual tuner) then it would look something like this:

Of course there are many ways of doing an install. Let me know how I can help.

Not that I G A F F but this is a form of piracy and should be probably dicussed other ways.

A lot depends on how the house is split. If there is one address, and an unlocked door between the two halves of the house (being a bi-level this is quite possible) then it is within Bell's terms of service.

But you are correct Vulcan; and as a warning to all- let's make sure we keep this all above board.

I know bell can support 4 with no problems. or additional hardware (other than boxes) . You can also run multiple TV's off one box if you want, but they all have to watch the same station. As it was described to me, the only thing that can be between the dish and a tuner is one of the types of switches.

As for the piracy thing, while I understand the concern about discussing it on the boards I do believe that Bell has no isses with the situation you are describing. When my mother was having cable issues, she called in Shaw to see what the problem was, and the guy uninstalled the cable she had running to her suite, saying it was in violation of TOS. She called Bell and explained the situation and they didn't have a problem with it.

Something to note though: The Bell installer wanted to run a dual signal through the cable that her 'net ran through and it destroyed the signal. So if you are getting it installed by someone else, don't let them do it. If you are installing it, make sure you run a totally seperate coax line for each.

Thaks everyone.
I didn't realize that "Splitter" was a bad word. It was probably the "switch" I saw at Bell World. It can't be too illegal if they are selling it in store. I won't be running HD on any of the units and will need 5 separate receivers. So judging from what I read above, it sounds like it's possible but a bit of a pain.?

The switch isn't illegal, many homes have more than one receiver. The problem comes if you are sharing a subscription to supply two different residences, a duplex. YOu never said you were and I was tired when I read your post, so carry on, my mistake. Yours is maybe a gray area but I wouldn't advertise it to Bell. Just trying to put you on alert, not trying to stymie your plans.

I have 6 receievers in my house. I think Bell charges me an extra $5 for the 5th and 6th ones.

you can go up to 6.
